I own a 2006 GTO - purchased May 2007. Approx 8,000 miles the front passenger strut went out. Dealership replaced. Approx 11,000 miles, drivers side strut went out. Dealership also replaced. Now @ 31,000 miles our rear tires needed replacing. When we took the old tire off, we noticed that the inside of the tire had worn out. The dealership said that they would check into the problem. We know that the front tires will probably need to be replaced. We have not heard from the dealership in 4 weeks from the date we purchased the new tires. They did do a front wheel alignment @ no charge. We do plan on going to the dealership to see about them replacing our front tires @ no charge. Please note that I rely on my dealership to advise me that I should have purchased new tires. I have them rotated every other oil change since we purchased the vehicle. After researching thru the nafta reports, we have found that this problem has always persisted. Please advise if there is another way that we should resolve this issue. Thank you

Strut rub in my 06 Pontiac GTO...tires rubbing against struts and causing dangerous wear on inside of tires. Dealership takes no responsibility and claims reason is alignment.

At approximately 5,000 miles, I noticed tire wear on the inside of both front tires of my 2006 GTO where the tread meets the sidewall. I contacted my local dealer, who aligned the front suspension. I also rotated the tires every 5,000 miles. Now, at 17,000 miles, the two tires which are now in the rear both are split at the junction of the sidewall and the tread. One tire went completely flat. This happened at about 60 mph. The other has only started leaking. This is the result of the tire contact with the strut, as indicated by the very close tolerance between the two, and the lack of paint on the strut in that location.

2006 Pontiac GTO. Strut failure. Have had the car for less than 10 months and the struts have failed. Have read that this is a problem with this make and model. This could cause fatal car wrecks, suspension is important for vehicle stability.

06 Pontiac GTO front passenger tire was shredded on the inside from strut rub. Front passenger side strut found to be leaking after the tire blew out driving down the highway at the posted speed of 70mph on 5-26-07. There was a complete ring ground all the way around the inside front tire when it was pulled from the car. The dealer states that there are no strut rub issues but reluctantly replaced only the passenger side strut and tire. My concern is that I may have another safety issue with the driver side strut and tire if it fails that may cause more than just minor repairs to the car. Dealer provided GM paperwork that states only struts with manufacturer dates between 1/16/06 & 5/4/06 are affected and any others should not be replaced.

Front struts continued to make failure noises - was checked by dealership numerous times, each time I was told that this noise was due to high performance tires and 18 inch rims that came on the car. This noises were equivalent to blown struts. This start on the first couple of weeks of purchasing the car. 2006 Pontiac GTO w/ 6 speed.

Tires rubbing struts and wearing the inside of tires down. Tires then shred and blow. Struts are also leaking fluid. This is a major safety issue, and they need to have a recall on this before a vehicle blows a tire and flips and kills someone.

Mechanical contact between right front tire and suspension strut, excessive negative camber of wheel assembly, resulted in accelerated uneven and excessive tire wear. If not corrected, this problem could lead to sudden air loss due to mechanical wear of the tire against the strut, or loss of vehicle control due to excessively worn tires. This issue was addressed in NHTSA preliminary evaluation, PE07-010.

: the contact stated after having the front strut repaired on 7-18-06, less than 1,000 miles later, the strut was leaking again. The suspension was making a loud banging noise on 7-29-06 and the garage floor, where the vehicle was parked, had a large amount of oil. The dealership determined the front strut failed again.

I bought my 2006 Pontiac GTO with 17 miles on it. I found out through a web forum, that the 2/06 GTO's may have had a bad batch of struts. Needless to say, that when I took my car on a short trip with my family, the car started to leak fluid from the right front strut. I think that the manufacturer should put out at least a tsb or recall these cars to make sure they are safe. I had my family with me at the time.
