The contact owns a 2010 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that the steering wheel locked while driving 35 mph. When the failure occurred the contact lost control of the vehicle, proceeded through the intersection and crashed into a curb. The steering wheel regained normal function after the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing who confirmed the failure was in the steering column power assist. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 51,000.

Per my mechanic he suggested that I contact Pontiac to inquiry about the sway link bar on the right front passenger side that he has been replacing the last 3 months on these cars including my car this weekend. They suggest you replace both side but I was unable to do the other side due to money issues. I just find it strange that this problem is not being address and why there is a problem with this in these cars.

Driving home after work. It was snowing so everyone is going slow. Randomly the car would slip and say "low traction" on the led screen. No big deal it's just saying to drive carefully. After one hour it started saying "ESC active" and I could feel the car trying to correct itself. Five minutes later after ESC kept popping on the screen the car chimed and now it was reading "service ESC" on the led screen and an icon came on the dashboard saying "ESC off" the led screen keeps switching between "service ESC" and "service traction control" being that there was a lot of snow the traction control was really helpful but since the light came on the car was just going all over and had a hard time trying to maneuver it, even at low speeds. Lights won't go off after turning the vehicle on\off they are still there. Taking the car to the dealer today. Not looking forward to it. Im on my second G6 first one was great. This one not so much.

Driving home from a long weekend in hibbing mn, we are driving at around 10pm at night when all of the sudden the vehicle shuts off completely. The headlights turned off, steering wheel locked and brakes were not reacting at all due to the vehicle not been running. We were both really scared as the vehicle would not turn the lights on even after I manually tried to turn them on. Car rolled to a stop I slowly applied the emergency/parking brake to help the vehicle stop as I couldn't see anything. After 10 minutes of trying to get the car to start again it did restart. Car had plenty of fuel, I had just replaced the battery roughly 6 months prior to that happening. So I know it was not out of fuel or a battery issue. I have not had the problem again but it was a very scary experience.

The other day my wife and I were going down the road and as I was going into a curve I lost my power steering almost hit the bank and since then I cant even drive it because of the power steering going I think this should be a recall because we could have got injured or even worse killed this should be a safety recall before someone gets hurt or they do and they sue GM for this safety issue and when I go to the dealer ship I will not pay for it and if I do GM will hear about it.

When I start my car I get 3 errors "power steering. Service ESC, and ESC off." I am able to turn my car on and off until the electric signal sends to the eps system so I am able to drive until the car is turned back off. Because the sensor does not work correctly, it doesnt send message to the electronic power steering motor and causes the power steering not to work. This appears to be the same issue as NHTSA id 10499437 and 10479698. I understand there was an existing recall with this same problem that should be expanded to include the 2010 Pontiac G6 and not just the G5.

I just found out the 'steering wheel torque impact sensor' is defective and the whole steering wheel column has to be replaced. When I start my car I get 3 errors because of this one sensor, "power steering. Service ESC, and ESC off." I am able to turn my car on and off until the electric signal sends to the eps system so I am able to drive until the car is turned back off. Because the sensor does not work correctly, it doesn't send message to the electronic power steering motor and causes the power steering not to work. While driving and when in park the steering wheel jerks back and forth by its self and the jerking continues to get worse. I have not got into a car accident yet and plan on putting it in the shop tomorrow, but this seems to be a problem numerous owners are having. Im sure if I would have let it go a few more days, the power steering would have cut off while driving, or the car would have jerked so badly it would have caused a crash. This is a very dangerous defect.

Power steering light keeps turning on and off. Took car to dealer and its going to cost $1200 for repair for new steering column and module. GM has same recalls on other models but not the G6 that has same issues.I have an extended warranty with advantage that GM sold me and they wont cover the steering column. I think GM needs to take care of this.
