The consumer took the vehicle to have the leaking transmission filter gasket replaced and as they were raising the car on the hoist the starter began to burn, the fire was caused by coolant leaking between the head and block, as the mechanic began to disassemble the motor they found one of the head bolts broken off and lying on the head cover, the broken bolt caused the head gasket to leak coolant onto the starter which caused the fire, the consumer believes this was faulty workmanship at the assembly plant. 1998 transmission with 60K miles on it blew thru the aluminum casing into the torque converter, cost to owner $2609 for repairs and have been told Chrysler is making poor engineering decisons with transmissions and continue producing them, they will not help with a good will repair and were rude to my wife on the phone.

Transmission failed on this vehicle. Van would not move forward or backward. I have another 98 Plymouth Voyager that is also used as a delivery van and it is experiencing some of thesame traits as this one. It will hesitate when put into gear and sometimes slip when starting from a stopped position. This is exactly what the van that has been fixed was doing. Chrysler paid for the parts on the van and I paid for labor. There appears to be some bulletins already on the books that pertain to these problems with the transmission.

The transmission is a known problem that Chrysler is playing dumb about. They are attempting to blame the consumer for failing to purchase extended warranties, when no one could reasonably expect a transmission to fail at 40K miles. Chrysler has offered to "pick up" the cost for parts, but... that still leaves $1,119 for the labor on the transmission and the erg valve. Neither of these components should have failed at 40K, but the transmission is my major concern.

Transmission was rebuilt a year ago by the dealer because it was shuttering. It started again on the 17th of February, and they replaced the transmission again. Currently, transmission is doing the same shaking. Dealer will not look at transmission until vehicle gets upto 1500 miles. Dealer thinks it just needs to be broken in.

Transmission failed at 41,000 miles 100's of similar @this site please recall! huge chucks of metal in pan, entire casing was damaged and had to be replaced. Vehicle showed no prior indication of failing. A search of this site has shown this is a problem with daimler-Chrysler all brands of MINIs since at least 1996, why is nothing being done to hold them accountable? in addition, the vehicle shifts into any gear from any gear without applying the brake.is
