I want to correct what I had sent in on 05/09/2001. I had an incomplete model description. It should have read Plymouth Voyager. The correct search on the web browser of www.google.com and www.alltheweb.com is Plymouth Voyager automatic transmission problems. I'm again describing my problem with the automatic transmission and I want to emphasize that a large number of others have had similar experiences as shown by the web site complaints and by my neighbors experiences. My wife was driving on a major roadway when the transmission gears disentigrated aaand punctured a hole in the casing. The car lost all power and the fluid splattered over the roadway surface. She was very lucky no one collided with her. Chrysler headquarters and the car dealer told me since the car ws past the 75000 mile warranty they would not help me. They wanted 2100 dollars to fix the problem. The dealer and the serice statiion the car was towed to told me this is a common problem with Chrysler transmissions. The web sites M.

Without warning automatic transmission gears shattered and poked a hole in the casing causing a full loss of power. Luckily my wife was not in an accident. Chrysler and the dealer say since I am past the 75000 mile limit, they will not help. It cost over $2100 to repair. Interent searches using www.google. com and www.alltheweb.com with the words Plymouth van transmission problems or Chrysler van transmission problems showed many sites with people having the same problems with more or less milage. If you are not under warranty you are out of luck. Three of my acquaintances had the same problem with newer Chrysler vans. The problem has not been fixed since 1994 to present.

Chrysler is manufacturing defective transmissions. They must be held accountable for all repairs on their defective parts. The transmissions should not fail at 50,000+ miles. Many minivan owners have had to replace their transmissions. I personally know of two family members who had to go through this with minivans with less than 55,000 miles.

For about 100 miles or so before total failure, we noticed a slight whining sound, plus some instances of slightly erratic shifting. A check of the transmission fluid showed it to be at the proper level. It looked clean, and had no burned smell. The transmission quit working at estelline, Texas, on us 287. I had to call a towing service, and was towed to childress, Texas. Ther are no Plymouth or Chrysler dealers in childress, so we went to a local transmission shop. They were able to get the transmission repaired in about a week, at a cost of $1772.50. Towing was $60. The mechanic said that the bushing in front pump apparently became loose and started spinning, causing very rapid wear, and damage to other parts. He had to install new front pump and forward drum assemblies, as well as other parts. I feel extremely unhappy about the expense, as well as the considerable personal inconvenience this incident caused. I have never abused the transmission, and have seen that it had normal maintenance, and I don't think it should fail at only 52000 miles.
