While driving 70 mph the driver heard a loud crunching noise from the front end. The driver pulled over and proceeded to put the vehicle into park, however the vehicle began to roll backwards so she applied the emergency brake. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where she learned the engine and transmission needed to be replaced. Please provide additional information.

On Chrysler vans, rod consistently breaks on cylinder #1 because the bolt is too short. Only happens on cylinder #1, even though the exact same head, on the other side of the engine (which would be cylinder #6) does not break like #1 does consistently.

Rear head gasket leaks coolant to rear of engine. From what I've now read, this was an unwritten recall, which Chrysler would fix if brought in before ~75--80K miles. Mine developed this leak before that, but I didn't find out about it until the vehicle had 105K on it.
