The Haynes manual says you have to remove wiring to the alternator from the underside. This is incorrect. The problem is removing the bottom bolt that secures the alternator to the frame. I'm not sure if you turn the bolt from the rear of the alternator or the front. Problem is getting a standard size wrench to access the rear. Also it appears to be unlikely that the alternator can be removed without removing the mounting bracket.
