Firstly, it was an 1993 olds 88 royale. But that doesn't seem to be an option.
Bear in mind, this car was a salvaged wreck, a Dr Frankenstein auto of parts, that could be spotted for a good half mile away.
Even when I parted with my $800 for this "once in a lifetime, you'll never find a car in this condition" opportunity (no really...look for a car in this condition), I managed my expectations, and drove like it would brakedown at any moment.
There was no air filter, just a gaping hole, on the intake where the filter (and all the hardware, should of been), Yellow paint marker, all over the engine bay. One mounting bolt for the radiator, bought a few cable ties, and held it up. When I saved up some cash, replaced the ties with duck tape.
Bushings for the K-frame engine mounts, shot. So hitting a bump, would result in the transmission to grind. Battery was held in with bungee cords.
But it was the master cyclinder that ultimately failed. It had to be the only original part on the car. The brake fluid, looked like honey. And when the time came to remove it, the whole thing just collapsed it a few pieces, and disappeared into the engine bay, and onto the concrete.
I tried to kill this car, over revved it, donuts, excessive braking, it would overheat occasionally..and still...it was an old faithful dog, that simply wouldn't quit. Eventually I started to mainatin the car, which..quelle surprise..made things worse.
Water pump, belts, transmission fluid, battery, coils, etc. Cheap stuff, but it was a weekly sunday afternoon thing, that something had to be addressed.
If I saw one again today for sale, I'd buy it.
So I humbly admit. GM..you did something right. Makes up for that 01 Malibu, that was dull to look at, drive, and was a rattlebox.
