With out warning there was a noise that sounding like something was stuck under the car, so I stopped and looked under the car I did not see anything and at that time the car still lookd and drove normal. So I started to drive again the noise stopped. As I was driving in town I was only going around 25 MPH I made a left trun then a right turn and at that point I here a large POP noise then a very large BANG seen smoke and smelled burning rubber the whole left front of the car dropped like a rock. I pulled over to the side of the street and got out and seen that my left front tire was flat and the car was sitting on the road! As it was getting dark and I was sure there was more to my situation then just a flat tire I called AAA for a tow. As it was now dark the tow driver could not see what the problem was either (other then it was more then a flat) and at first he thought it might be a broken ball joint. I had the car towed to my house and put it in the drive way. It was not untill the next day when I started look as to what went wrong before I seen (after searcing for a while) that the left front coil spring was snapped into 3 peices. Please note that althought this was a Olds Cudtlass its an excate twin to the Chevy Malibu.
Update from Jul 23, 2010: after looking at other cars I came to the conclusion that the best thing to do was to get the olds fixed. Had the car towed to a local shop that I have used in the past. Was only going to put on front "quick struts" when the shop looked at the rear guess what??? the back coil spring was also broken. The break looks old and rusty so I think it was broken for some time (the break on the front was clean) anyway the cost came to 1147.32 for 4 quick struts and one tire/ So the cost was very high to say the lest.
