The multifunction switch went bad for the third time. My mother-in-law and a friend of hers all had 1997 Olds Auroras with the same problem. All three of us took our cars to the same dealer and each was charged $800.00. My Aurora started acting up with the same problem again after three years. The lights would go off and on day and night. The battery went dead and a new battery was $160.00. The third episode was the least expensive as I saw on the internet where someone had the same problem as I did. They said that their mechanic pulled the switch out, cleaned it with a contact spray and put it back in. They charged $100.00. The car has worked fine since then. This was another case of Oldsmobile and GM dealing in defective parts and leaving their loyal customers twisting in the wind. No more GM products for me.
