My dad's Aurora was a great looking car with kick ass acceleration. However, as with many American cars sadly, the quality and durability were lacking. My dad got lousy gas mpg. He got 10 to 13 in urban and mixed driving. On the highway dad got maybe 16 mpg. Of course my dad and yours truly have lead foots on the gas. This big Olds had a dual air conditioning system with dual computer systems which tended to act up and never could really cool the car. This was surprising because GM cars always had great air conditioning. The sensors were malfunctioning and the only thing that blew was the money out of my dad's wallet. The driver's side system never blew cold air. At least $1000 was blown on trying to rectify this situation. And with dark leather seats and living below the Mason Dixon Line (Baltimore, Md.) didn't make matters easier. My dad took the car to several A/C shops and was fleeced by the dealer. Finally he took the plunge and had the system converted over to the R134 A system still with no luck. And, one big rant. That switch was and still is a royal pain in the ass. I'm all for environmental friendly green actions but, blocking out the old R 12 was unfair to those of us who were limited on the money.
