Also, the ignition switch would turn to the off position and the vehicle stalled multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switched needed to be replaced. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14V400000 (electrical system). The vehicle was repaired under the recall, but the failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Consumer was able to remove the key from the ignition while traveling at 50 mph. Vehicle is not covered under warranty. NHTSA recall 00V372000.....dealer refused to replace ignition switch even though it was considered unsafe in case of an accident and/or fire. To replace it would cost $145.O4 plus approximately $150 for labor. Consumer could not afford it, was on social security.

Complaint received via E-mail. Ignition cylinder locked up and I had to replace it at $350 plus towing charges. Yesterday, October 24, the same thing happened. Another friend of mine who owns a 2000 Alero has had 3 of these ignition cylinders replaced at the cost of $350 each.
