A few weeks ago the clutch started to slip on my 2012 Nissan Xterra (when it was at just under 49k miles). We took the car to the local dealership last Monday and called Nissan corporate to file a report (seeing as a clutch should never go out that early). The gentleman with corporate assured me he would keep me up-to-speed on my case and suggested I go pick my vehicle up, since it was drivable, so I wasn't out a car while they decided how to approach this.
I went back to the dealership to get my car Tuesday and found that whatever tests they had run had taken my car from totally drivable with a slipping clutch, to frying my clutch entirely, to the point where it couldn't even be driven off the lot. Then, after four days in the shop, the dealership calls to tell us that without even looking at the parts, Nissan corporate had declined to help with the clutch, offering to cover the flywheel -- which is under the extended warranty WE paid for. And if you think the person at corporate called to discuss any of this with me, you'd be wrong. I've been driving manual transmissions exclusively for the past 18 years and have never had a clutch go out before 150k. Nissan apparently won't stand behind their vehicles or the crappy parts they put into them. Entirely disappointing -- this was our first Nissan and it will be our last. We'll stick with Subaru from here on out.
