CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005-2007 Xterra appears to have a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure around 90,000 miles. Repair costs are typically upwards of $3,500.
The same defect exists in the Pathfinder & Frontier as well. And according to the New York Times & a class action lawsuit, the defect actually extends through 2010 model year. More info here.

Same issue, different items ( see previous complaints about the Xterra manual clutch). Car wouldn't shift into ANY gear. Towed to dealer. After a couple days, he said it was the clutch master cylinder and slave, not under warranty ( of course). Coincidental that the components failed two weeks after the dealer replaced the clutch and flywheel ?? I towed it home, and am now working on replacing it. What a hassle. Again, Nissan refuses to acknowledge their design deficiencies and do the right thing. Don't buy a Xterra with a manual transmission.
