Sometime in the winter of 2010 I noticed small rust spots forming on the tail gate and the bumper of my Xterra. I've tried a few rust treatments and it's helped slow the progression, but not much. This is something that will have to be professionally repaired eventually, and the bumper will need replacement. Not impressed.

After seeing this on my own vehical, I've noticed rust in the same areas on many other Xterras and Pathfinders, leading me to believe this isn't just an isolated occurance. Nissan is obviously cutting corners somewhere to make a few more bucks. Big surprise.

Xterra S 4.0L V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 25,000 miles

Made my Nissan dealer aware of the problem before the 3 yr. warranty was up but couldn't get it there for a couple of weeks after warranty up. So Luther Nissan, Invergrove Heights, MN just blew me off.Within weeks of discovering first rust spot I found 2 more on the tailgate . Recently I have discovered a larger rust spot on the valance by the right rear door.

This will be my first and last Nissan . My 13 yr. old Toyata Pick-up had less rust on it when I sold it in 2005. My response is to never buy another Nissan .Tell every one about Nissans low quality ,and Luthers bad service . My last car purchase was a Honda .I'm sure I have personnally made sure many of the people I talked to would now never consider a Nissan .So instead of spending a few dollars to placate me Nissan has now lost thousands in potential sales .Great business sense!!!.

Spoke to the dealer about this problem.... They stated that the rust was not severe enough and that it needed to rust all the way through in order to be covered under the 5 year paint warranty. Stand behind your products Nissan!
