CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2003 Nissan Xterra doesn't seem to have any problem trends. The only thing prospective owners should be aware of are the less-than-perfect (but acceptable) crash test ratings.
There are a very few transmission complaints, but nothing like the huge defect that shows up starting in with the 2005 model year.

Looked at the rig to purchase used, and I told the salesmen the AC did not work and he assured us he would have it repaired and working when we came to take ownership. It did not work, everything else worked fine but no cold air. I checked the ac lines at the firewall when I got home with it and both were hot. The compressor was running but not getting cold?? (I turned it off the rest of the way home as to not damage the compressor).
Hmmm, I pulled the cab filters and found them plugged (don't think they had ever been changed) so the service department failed to service it right and passed it! (Tech told the salesmen it did not have cab filters) not to mention the Ac did not work and it had a couple marker lights out, and I won't mention the detail horrors!!
So I vacuumed and blew out the box/ducts etc... noticed the P.O.A. valve inside where the filters are (so airflow was restricted) due to the filthy filters etc... I tried it without the filters and tape over the AC box, one of the lines started to get cool, but still not like it should out of the duct.
