CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.
In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).
Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

I was a Honda customer for over 40 years. Over those years, I purchased 7 cars with Hondas for myself and my children. During this time we never had an issue with any of our cars. In 2011, I was looking to buy a new car. I decided to buy a car from a different dealer. I wanted an affordable car while still maintaining a quality product. After researching, I decided to invest in a Nissan Versa. I bought my car, a 2012 Nissan Versa in December 2011.
The Nissan Versa is a good car. The car was only used by me. I didn't have any issues until I noticed a few cracks on the inside driver door panel. It appeared to be four small cracks. Please see enclosed pictures for more details.
I called the Metro Nissan of Montclair service department and spoke to Fernando Alcaraz on Dec. 1, 2014. I explained to him the issues I was having with the car. I took my car to Metro Nissan on Dec. 3, 2014. I was informed my car was no longer covered under the 3yrs/36,000 mile warranty. It was not even covered under the additional service warranty I purchased. At this time my car had over 58,000 miles.
I could understand if any mechanical/electrical issues were not covered but the issue was a door panel. I feel due to improper installation, a poor quality product, or simply a product defect caused the cracks in the door panel. I owned Honda cars over 20 years and never did I have this issue. The Versa is too new, only 3 years old for it to have a cracked door panel!!
I was quoted a price to fix it, which I wasn't happy with to say the least. I called Nissan of North America at 1-800-NISSAN1 to file a complaint. I spoke to Quinta and she explained the 3yrs/36,000 miles warranty policy to me. She explained if I went back to Metro Nissan of Montclair to get my car repaired, Nissan would refund me half of the repairs to the door panel and the dealership wouldn't charge me for any labor. I still wasn't happy with this resolution but felt I had no other recourse.
When I took my car to get serviced, other customers had the same issue with the door panel. Clearly this is not an isolated issue and should be looked into for a possible recall. My car panel was repaired on Dec. 11, 2014 since the part had to be ordered. The total cost of the repair was $358.78. I did receive a reimbursement check from Nissan for $170.40. Please see enclosed for details.
At this time I'm requesting to receive the remaining balance of the repair to be refunded to me which is $188.38. I strongly feel the driver door panel is defective and I shouldn't be penalized for it.
I enclosed all the related paperwork associated with this issue for review. Please let me know if any additional information is needed. I hope to hear from someone so we can resolve this issue.
