Both front springs broke on the Nissan Versa 2011. Had a squeak and then looked at the suspension and was freaked out to find both front springs broken--passenger side bottom of the spring, driver side top of the spring which jammed itself into the bearing. I see that the NSTA is investigating this failure...happy it didn't happen on the highway at 60 MPH.

On 7/20/15 I was outside and heard what sounded like an explosion. So I looked around and could find anything out of place inside garage where I thought it came from. Chalked it up to concrete cracking after recent flooding in eastern Ky. This could have been really bad if had been driving when this happened. Got in car today to go pick up some parts for project I'm working on. Car didn't move when put in drive turned wheel and "pop" metal hitting concrete sound. Part of the coil spring laying under the right front strut. Just happened today 7/23/15 and it's a 2011, so out of warranty have to fix myself.

The car has 20k miles on it and owned since new. Not abused in any way. This is obviously a Manufacturer defect and should be recalled. I suggest anyone with this car not drive it until you have it inspected for cracked coil springs. Where this one broke it had obvious old crack in coil spring. The part that broke off had a 1/4 deep rust spot rest was shinny from just breaking.

At 40,000 miles (or so) we noticed a "thud, thud, thud, thud" when we entered the drive way during January 2015. I looked around the car- testing the exhaust pipe, if it was loose, looked at the motor if anything was loose and found nothing. The noise continued every once in-a-while so we took it to Pepboys. They told us it was a coil spring/strut binding. It would cause no harm, did not present a danger, and would not cause any un-even wear on the tires, it was a harmless noise. BUT they could replace both springs/struts for $800.

Hello World, I bought my 2011 Nissan Versa Hatchback in May 2014 ( 30k miles). A few weeks later, while driving out of my driveway, I heard a clunking noise coming from the driver side suspension. I called the dealer, Gettel Nissan in Sarasota, FL, and they told me I would have to leave it for a week. I live over 50 miles away from the dealer. A rental was not available and I needed to be at work the following Monday, so I decided to leave.

I contacted a few dealers and they said that I needed to go back to the dealer so that they could check the suspension and see what was wrong with it. After a few months of not getting anywhere, and now reaching the 37k miles, the car was out of the 3 yr/36000 mile warranty. Nissan said that I would have to pay $100 inspection fee to the dealer closest to my house. I went online and saw that the front end noise might be a spring and or a linkage problem.

At this time I can't afford the $100 plus any repairs out of warranty. If anyone has a comment or a solution, please let me know. I am a father of three and it's our only car in the family. I bought it because it was cheap and very economical with gas. Thanks and God bless!
