Many Versa owners have reported problems getting Nissan dealers to complete the recall repair, due to scheduling problems & parts shortages.

Car was fine and then would not start the next day. The dealer says the fuel pump is out and needs replacement and it costs $1200. Apparently this has been a reported problem but there is no recall, only some kind of notice that leaves the expense to the owner.
Engine stopped suddenly in middle lane of 3-lane highway on a road trip. Potentially extremely dangerous but luckily cars noticed my emergency lights and I had enough momentum to pull over.
It was Friday, 4 p.m., before a long weekend in Ontario. I was about to pick up my son to go camping. Don't have a cell, so had to Hitch a ride (I'm 62) to a gas station. Super nice people knew a nearby garage, where the mechanics very kindly found and fixed the problem. They worked on Saturday and my camping gear (a tight fit) was all over the place.
It took them a while to find the problem because they couldn't believe a fuel pump would die in a car that age. Nissan was closed and nearest second-hand part 100 miles away. It cost me $1000. Nissan later replaced the part with a new one (for free), but I was still out $1000.
Driving back from a hockey game, the cruise control "disengaged" and very fortunately for us, I was able to coast from the center lane to the right lane and finally pull over on a decent shoulder to prevent any accidents from occurring. In the dark, I was able to diagnose that the 15 amp fuse for the fuel pump had blown and I carry a spare fuse with me, because this happened to me about a year ago while at a red light. I now have a very expensive ($300) fuel pump sitting on my garage work bench waiting to be installed, after I remove the back seat, borrow some friends fuel line tools and replace the piece of crap OEM fuel pump.
I have had a Toyota, a Hyundai, and a Kia that are over 100k miles with no sign of any fuel pump issues. This is most likely my first and last new Nissan that I will ever buy, I expected a lot more from a Japanese auto maker.
On my way to work Tuesaday morning going 7- mph on Interstate Highway with high volume traffic, car stopped accelerating rapidly and I was able to safely pull over to the shoulder. the car cut off and would turn over, but not start. I was stranded on a busy highway for an hour before a tow truck came. I towed it to the dealer I bought it from and paid $98 for them to tell me the fuel pump is gone and quoted me $585 for the part only, plus labor. Later that day I was informed that the part is on back order and not available. I had to rent a car for 2-3 days for $150. I searched Advance Auto Parts online and found the part for $339.00. As I began to research this issue, I find that it is a common issue with the Nissan Versa. I am still waiting to hear when a part can be found from the Dealer. I see that Nissan does not consider this issue as a recall, just a service bulletin and does nothing to help the car owner. I will not buy another Nissan.
Update from May 2, 2013: Was going 70 mph on highway, not 7!
