The rear hub caps are causing the problem. I am ignoring it as I don't have the money to purchase a new one.

This is the second time that the hub cap came off of my Nissan Versa 2007. At first I thought it was someone stealing the caps but after reading the complaints within this site, I know understand that it is a manufacturing problem and Nissan should issue a recall and replace caps at no charge.

So my hubcap fell off and another one is about to fall off. Very poorly manufactured item. I've also seen numerous Versa's with their hub caps off thru town. I know this car was cheap, but seriously when you can't take the hubcap off without it being damaged, that's a problem. The more you rotate your tires it ruins the hubcaps. The plastic fasteners have a tendency to break when you remove it. This definitely is in need of a recall.

After less than one month, the Nissan Versa Wheel Covers/Caps came off, two were lost driving to work on the freeway, then during a raining day I found out how unsafe the tires that came with the vehicle were, when I needed to brake they had little to no stopping power and I could feel the vehicle drift and hydroplaning. I decided to replace both the wheels and tires so this would be a safer vehicle. After sourcing new tires and wheels the Versa is much more safe and a better driving and handling car.

While I can attest to the number of Versa's (our own included) we see with at least one hub cap missing. The cost of replacing them seems high but you must have them covered. You can often find very cheap wheel/tire packages for under $500. I agree the need should not be there in the first place but there are fixes out there including just buying cheap replacement non-Nissan hub caps. Even if they don't last you can often by these for 20-30 dollars.

I first noticed a missing hub cap on passenger side in April 2007 at just 3,000 miles, I chalked it up to a parking lot theft. Then a few weeks later noticed a second hub cap missing in the same passenger side, also thought perhaps a parking lot theft or prank. I searched the web about this issue in 2008 and found that it seems a common problem with this car. Contacted Nissan with no response. Then in December 2010 i took my car to the dealer [where i bought the car from] for annual state inspection, the service manager called me to say all was fine but had i noticed i have 2 hubcaps missing. I told him yes and he offered to sell a set of 2 to me. I told him that #1 i had contacted Nissan in 2008 with no response, and #2 i had brought my car into the dealer for state inspection every year since buying the car so why trying to sell me a set now and not the 3 years prior? Slow sales day? #3 i had researched the issue and it appears to be a common problem with this car. I asked for a buy 1 get 1 free deal and he said no, to contact Nissan again. I did and never heard back. Now is February 2012 and yet another hub cap gone. I am going to remove the last one myself.

Since 2008, I just lost my fourth hubcap off of my 2007 Nissan Versa. This is getting ridiculous. Not to mention...just had to take my car in last week for a brand new $450 muffler. My muffler was in great shape (no rust) but it was completely severed from the gasket. Mechanic told me there was nothing I could do about but replace the muffler. After having it replaced, I read online this is a common problem with Versa's and some people took their car to Midas to get it welded for $100. I wrote Nissan but the only reply I got from them was to take it to the dealership to get it replaced. This is my first Nissan...even my rusty 12 year old Chrysler I had before my Versa never lost hubcaps and never needed a new muffler.

I have had two hubcaps replaced since I have owned this car. Luckily I told the shop that I know it is a common problem (all of the net, cars missing hubs all over town!) and that I wanted them replaced, I won't pay. It worked and he gave me two new ones. Now, I put new tires on the car and have two more broken hubcaps. One has been broken, just barely holding on. Nissan needs to step up and say "we made a mistake and we will be happy to make it right."

All Nissan Versa hubcaps are defective. The only solution is a total recall to replace these defective hubcaps with some that are well built and have solid clips/grips. There is also danger that when a hubcap flies off in heavy traffic........where it will end up nobody knows......... Someone could certainly be injured or killed.

The only solution, until a total recall is made, which will NOT happen unless someone is killed, is as follows:=.

Go to your local Dollar Store and buy 8 clear coloured nylon ties. Make sure they are long enough. Tie two of these on each wheel. The hubcaps will not fly off anymore. Keep a knife or cutting pliers in your car just in case you get a flat tire. Plus a few extra ties to replace the ones you cut off.

This is the only solution for now. Your dealer will NOT give you new hubcaps and one will cost you at least $75.00 plus labor.

This was the fourth, fifth, and sixth hub cap that I purchased at one time at a discount rate from the dealer with the expectation that I would be having more hub caps pop off at some point in the future. I already had lost 3 hub caps. Last time the dealership called Nissan and Nissan told them there was no known problem with hub caps falling off the Versa. A mechanic took me off to the side and told me to GOOGLE the problem when I got home. Research revealed this is a widespread problem with the Versas. I also called Nissan about the problem and they claimed no knowledge of any such problem.

Nissan issued me a Vehicle Service Contract-Bronze which would give me credits towards free oil changes and oil filters covering a period that would equate to about the replacement costs for 2 hub caps. The dealer refused to honor the oil changes due to Nissan failed to enter the Service Contract information into the computer/system. As of May 2010, I have not received any credits for oil changes. Every oil change has been paid out of my pocket.

I live in a rural area and live 45 minutes away from dealership, so when the hub cap came off I did not have the time to run back down to the dealership. I thought I would just wait and mention it to them when I took my car back in for its oil change. When that happened approximately 4 weeks later, I was told by the saleman that I would have to purchase a new hubcap for $60.00 since I did not bring the car right in when the hubcap fell off. Needless to say I was not a happy camper and I did not purchase a new one, knowing full well that it was going to happen all over again. Nissan should address this problem immediately.

How can I keep babysitting my hubcaps and chasing them down the street all the time! Why do the maintenance people act like your the first they ever heard of this prob? Why should I have to go around every six months or so with a missing hubcap like I bought a cheap car, just to wait a month to get replaced FOR ANOTHER ONE THAT WILL FALL OFF!

Versa S 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission

This was the 5th hubcap which has fallen off. The "plastic" clips which hold the hubcap to the rim break off and "bam" the hubcap goes spinning into road.

I've complained to the dealership and nothing gets done.

I love the car but you would think Nissan could design a hubcap that doesn't break the clips off from road bumps, tire rotation or just to check the air.

They've known about his since the beginning. I was one of the first buyers of the car and now its 2010 and still nothing has been done.

Duh! They don't have any intention to fix the problem!

This is total crap!

We purchased our car with 27,000 miles on it. Our first hub cap fell off around 39,000 miles and it was the back left wheel. We noticed it was loose one day and the next day it was gone. Our 2nd hubcap fell off yesterday (Aug 13th, 2009) and our car has about 45,000 miles on it. This one fell off without any warning at all. The dealer said to replace it would be $60 + tax for each hubcap and if their ended up being a recall, he doubts we would get reimbursed for the money we spent.

Generally we like the Versa, but we don't like looking like a schmuck driving around without hubcaps that in my opinion should be pretty much standard and sturdy on any car. Nissan doesn't seem to be having the financial problems as much as some of the other companies, you would think they would want to keep their customers happy before we all go trade in their cars for a cheaper Ford or GM because their prices are so much less now.
