Loss of Motive Power due to broken crank
Engine
Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine:Diesel
- Summary
- The Office of Defects Investigation has identified 10 Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) reports and several Early Warning Reporting (EWR) field reports for model years (MY) 2016 through 2019 Nissan Titan XD diesel trucks alleging a loss of motive power. The trucks are experiencing a failure of the crankshaft resulting in an engine stall with no ability to restart. Repairing these vehicles requires replacement of the engine. The subject trucks are equipped with a 5.0L V8 diesel engine manufactured by Cummins Inc. Multiple process changes were implemented by Cummins during the production of these engines. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to assess the scope, frequency, and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related problem. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
