Last year, in June of 2016, my husband took our Nissan Titan to a dealership to have the transmission serviced. The odometer reading was right at 75,000 miles. After a "5 point inspection" of the hoses etc., it was flushed and filled with new transmission fluid. The service department said we're good to go. Really? Whomever serviced our transmission didn't notice (or maybe didn't give a damn) that the transmission cooler line was rusted, and as a result of that, it eventually rusted thru and broke while we were on vacation and driving on a backwater road in West Virginia. There were NO INDICATOR LIGHTS that the transmission was overheating...nothing! The truck just suddenly lost power and we immediately pulled over, smoke pouring out from under the hood! We had it towed to a dealership and were notified that it needs a new transmission to the tune of $6000. Metal doesn't rust overnight. This whole mess could have been avoided with a simple part replacement. We found out too late that rusted/leaking transmission cooler lines have been an issue for numerous Titan owners, so you'd think that service departments would check the lines carefully when customers bring their vehicles in for servicing. Nissan Consumer Affairs called today after I submitted a complain and they said "Sorry but there's nothing we can do." The rep suggested contacting the dealership who serviced our transmission last year. I left a detailed message for the service manager at the dealership who flushed our transmission last year and he has yet to call back. If you own a Titan, do yourself a favor and immediately check your transmission lines and hoses.
