CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

After about 80, 000 miles I could hear my car having a difficult time progressing in speed especially on the interstate a rates of 60 mile per hour. Currently my car is at 100,747 miles and I have to get the transmission repaired because today the transmission begin to slip and my car was jerking. This occurred while I was driving on the highway, so I got off the interstate and drove on the street home, and the jerking motion continued.

When driving the vehicle I noticed a noise while accelerating. When I turned the wheel while accelerating it got louder and struggled to move ive only had the vehicle for three years. I had called the dealer to ask about my warrenty. They had told me that I was over my milage. So then I took it to amco to get it serviced and I find out the transmission had issues spent 2800. One year later I'm having other issues with the transmission. I'm not the only complainting about this there are other vehicles having cvt issues. I cant afford to put more money into this vehicle. Almost done paying it off but having another issue I just want to get rid of this vehicle. Please help!!!

Transmission acts erratically, we have experienced slippage, vibrations, loss of power at highway speeds (almost like the transmission was shifted into neutral). We had the vehicle in for these problems at 50,788 miles (12/29/2017), the dealer did a reprogram at this time, and 54,904 miles (03/09/2018)with the Nissan dealer saying there was nothing wrong. Now there is a class action lawsuit for these problems, but even though they extended the warranty to 84,000 miles, our vehicle has 85,750 miles so it is not covered. The date and incident information below represents the date of the most recent occurrence.

Like everyone else in the world, the cvt transmission on these cars are extremely horrible and potentially very unsafe. The RPM's will start to decrease and increase with no warning, eventually leaving the car to a slow crawl. Very unsafe, especially when you have a young driver on a busy freeway on his way back to college. There is currently a 'pending" recall and lawsuit on these transmissions and is long overdue. It's no wonder, car manufacturers like Honda and Toyota come higher rated, these cars are not just unreliable, but very unsafe based on them having past known malfunctions which seem to keep recurring every year. Filing a complaint isn't going to fix anything either, hopefully a class action lawsuit will force Nissan's hand to fix the problem they are and have been aware of for years.

I crunk car up after being parked for about 2 hours. The car crunk with a load whining noise from under the hood. It drove for about 5 feet and suddenly would not move. The car was powered on but it would not accelerate. The car had to be towed to the dealer. I was advised that the transmission had "went out" at 68,970. Per my previous complaint id # 11030604, the transmission was replaced on 10/13/17 at 39,851 miles. After receiving service records, I confirmed that the transmission had been replaced at 14,826 miles (date of replacement unavailable). The 2014 Nissan Sentra's cvt transmission is defective. This presents a safety hazard. The vehicle has experienced non driver initiated hesitation, acceleration, slowing down to almost a stop, and stopping while driving. My particulair vehicle's transmission had been replaced at least 3 times at 68,970 miles. The vehicle has been to the repair shop at least 4 times for this same issue (including one time at 39,824 when the cvt control valve assemply was replaced).
