CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.
In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).
Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Got the car second hand from my aunt in 2021. It had about 79k. Obviously no one told her tranny had to be serviced fluid filter change at 30k. In 30 years I've never seen such a thing. So when driving to work, the car was fine. I drove for a couple months. Obviously the milage was past transmission service requirement. Car went into limp mode and I nearly got hit several times could not accelerate. Researched vehicle discovered tranny fluid change requirements. Tranny smelled burnt.
I dropped fluid on CVT oil pan. Black pancake batter. Plop!!! It's supposed to be clear green. Changed fluid and filters, internal also. Parts and fluid are not cheap. 3 times!! I end up getting 2 valve bodies (OEM) and reprogrammed car drives but cannot accelerate.
Through research I believe it's the belt tranny oil pump plus bearings. Such a beautiful car inside and out. Runs good. 124k miles. But can barely get out of its own way after nearly 2000$ later. Used trannys are 2800$. New 4500$. Parts outrageous and fluid, too. An inferior product and on top of that cant sell the P.O.S. What a piece of junk.
How can they still sell these same transmissions? How is Nissan still in business with no recalls? I'm at the point of medication on this damn car. A money pit. A bad product. I need a transmission and they need to square it up.
Help!!
