CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Car is very unstable even in the slightest bit of snow, even with new snow tires! It seems to get worse each year. I just spent $3000 to repair and then replace transmission! I can't afford to buy another car!!!

Sentra S 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

No traction out of 2-3 cm of snow. I shut off traction control and still didn't get any traction. Very light in front end, a bad design of Nissan, definitely will hurt Nissan Sentra reputation. 2013 Sentra is not safe to drive on snow.

Probably have to get rid of this Sentra ASAP. Very disappointed having spent $20,000 on a car I can't drive in Toronto, Ontario.

Sentra SV 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,000 miles

Car is supposed to have front wheel drive but could not get any traction out of 3 to 4 inches of snow. I shut off traction control and still didn't get any traction. Very light in front end I guess.

Probably have to trade it in after 1 year. Very disappointed having spent $24,000 on a car I can't drive in the state of Illinois. Hard to push because of plastic front end. They sure don't make em like they use to
