CVT transmission failed 1 year after I bought the car (used, not from a dealership). Local mechanic couldn't touch it as the computer said there was a miscommunication between the transmission and the engine. Dealership said that CVTs "just fail like that" and quoted it as around $5k for a new one. That's way over the cost of the car. Never got it fixed. Don't buy anything with a CVT.
At around 12,000 miles, the gear shift lever locked up in a parking lot and could not be put into gear. Had to really force it to get it to the dealership. The timing was about one week over the 3 year warranty. Even though the warranty book says the drive train is warrantied for 6 years, and 60,000 miles.
I paid between $150 and $200 to get my car back. If there is a class action suit for Nissan Sentra, I would like to join it.
