The check engine light came on after filling up. I noticed poor gas mileage, and the smell of gas prior to the check engine light illuminating. I took the car and had the code read and it was the code P0455,"Evap System Gross Leak". I took vehicle to the dealership with charged $130 for diagnostics. The problem is the Vent Control Valve and they wanted $500 to repair. The valve is stuck in the open position so I don't have a problem filling the car with gas.

I had the check engine light come on and code 455 registered, which is "Gross evaporative leak". I found a few forums where people had reported this problem and had instructions on how to clean or replace the vapor canister purge valve located behind the driver side rear tire.

I never experienced the problem some people reported with the inability to fill the tank, so I suspect my valve had a tendency to leak, instead of being stuck in the closed position.

I decided to see if cleaning would do the job, and so on about 4 different occasions I removed the valve, cleaned it and each time it would prevent the check engine light from coming on for about 2 months. Finally after the fourth time I decided to order a replacement valve off amazon for $40 and replaced the part. The title of the product as listed on amazon was "Dorman 911-503 Vapor Canister Purge Valve". I replaced the part in October 2013 and haven't had any 455 codes as of April 2014.
