The contact owns a 2001 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall without warning. The contacts mechanic replaced the ignition coil fuse and the vehicle ran normal for a few days and then began hesitating and exhibiting recurrences of stalling. The contact then took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the crank position sensor would need to be replaced. The dealer stated there was a recall under NHTSA campaign id numbers: 01V357000 and 03V455000 (engine and engine cooling) but the contacts vehicle was not included in either recall. The vehicle eventually became inoperable. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 122,000.
My vehicle almost stalled on the freeway. A vehicle behind me had to swerve out of the way to avoid rear ending me. I was able to drive home at a slow pace. Took my vehicle which is a 2001 Nissan Sentra gxe to the dealership to get a diagnostic check. The dealer informed me that my problem was the ECU system. They told me that the ECU system needed to be replaced. I searched online for any recalls for that particular vehicle model. There were 8 recalls for that years model. One of the recalls involved the ECU system. The problem with the recall was consistent to the problem I was having with my vehicle. I called Nissan and informed them about the problem. They had already archived my vehicles VIN number and I had to wait 24 hours for them to reach me to only advise me that there were no recalls for that vehicle. I know of one recall I received in 2004 about the headlights. Many vehicles for that particular year have had the same problem with the same results. Nissan does not want to take responsibility for their "lemons." My vehicle only has 82000 miles on it. The ECU should not be bad. I am disappointed that there is a recall but for some reason it does not include my vehicle which was archived and it has not been 10 years.
The contact owns a 2001 Nissan Sentra. He stated that while driving approximately 10 mph and approaching a stop sign or traffic light the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light illuminated each time the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the electronic control module was not responding to the engine. The mechanic also stated that recall number 03V477000, electrical system, ignition module was related; however, the manufacturer confirmed that his VIN was not included. No repairs have been made. The current and failure mileages were under 110,000.
The plastic portion of my oil dipstick broke off on my 2001 Nissan Sentra gxe. This caused the dipstick to fall into the engine. I had to pay for a new dipstick. The new dipstick is also plastic and I anticipate that this will happen again. It does not take a genius to realize that you should not use plastic on an engine part!!!

Regarding the broken oil dip stick: 1- drain the oil and leave the drain plug out. 2 - use a shop vacuum to suck the lost dip stick out of the engine. 3 - replace oil drain plug, refill with oil, replace new dip stick.
The dipstick broke off in the tube on my 2001 Nissan Sentra. The metal stick and plastic top to the stick are about 3 inches in the tube and are unretreivable by myself. The dealership wants to charge $250 to get the stick out and replace it.
The oil dipstick handle broke and the pastic above the dipstick is welded to the metal tube. The dipstick cannot be removed. I bought a replacement dipstick online, but the Nissan technicians say it costs $200 in service to remove the tube and get the old one out. This is a defective part.
Nissan Sentra 2001 SE. Motor stopped on freeway at once, failure was crank sensor. Cost me 500 parts tow and labor, no dealer around or open. New sensor failing now I think, service engine soon light on again. ECM problems, also front rim broke and caused the car to go in ditch, needs body repair now. Bad vibration in steering. Have tried to get this car fixed at dealer no luck also tried Nissan consumer aff. They also had no luck getting car in for safety fixes. They don't have parts and never return my calls.
1&2) driving down the highway at 65 mph. The car suddenly starts to shudder and becomes hard to control. Slowed down to 35 mph, still shuddering but not as much. Stopped at a light, the car dies in the middle of the road. Other cars veer around me. Tried to start the car again immediately. Doesn't start. Wait 5 minutes in the middle of the road (it was raining and hailing at the time) and try to start again. This time it starts but idles very heavily. At this point the check engine soon light comes on. I tried to drive a few more blocks, and the car almost ended up dying in an intersection. At that point I pulled over right after rolling slowly out of the intersection and waited for a tow truck. The car would still start but I didn't trust it to drive it. 3) the mechanic tells me that the failure is the mass air flow sensor. The part is only available from a Nissan dealership, and costs $488.19 plus a half hour of labor for installation!!! the new part also needs to be synched up with the car's computer because its different than the old part since Nissan knows that the old part is no good. Seems to me they should have initiated a recall if this is really the case. If you happen to know that any of this is false, I would very much appreciate knowing that. I don't know if this mechanic knows what he is talking about or not since this is the first time that I have used him. Thanks.
Hello, I own a 2001 Nissan Sentra. I've had the car for about 3.5 years and during that time it's had at least 4-5 recalls. Most recently I took it in for the engine control module case holder recall in early March. This recall was to fix a problem that could result in the engine shutting off while driving. About two months later, I was on the road sitting at a red light, and all of the sudden the engine shut off. I though that maybe I had it in gear and I just released the clutch on accident, but it happened two more times on that trip. Now I constanstly have the engine shutting down on me while driving or when sitting in idle. It has happened during turns in which it made it very very difficult to steer as the power steering is cut off. I did take the car in for inspection and they told me that it was a bad air flow meter. I declined to have it fixed as I thought that it should be covered under warranty. I even wrote a letter to Nissan Consumer Affairs, and requested they fix my vehicle. However they declined.
I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra and the "service engine soon" light has come on. I noticed from the Nissan web site that there are three recalls that may result in the light coming on. My car falls within the VIN range listed on Nissan web site. So, I contacted one of the Nissan dealers and was told that they could have my car inspected for $81 because the vehicle is not in the warranty any more. I contacted the Nissan national Consumer Affairs office and was told the same thing. I don't understand why I have to pay the diagnostic fee if the car is on the recall list and may have a safety related defect. I am sure Nissan (or Nissan dealers) can make huge money by just diagnosing defective Nissan vehicles.
Oil dipstick handle cracks off leaving dipstick stuck in engine. The handle is plastic in a hot area being the engine and has a weak point on it. This is a common problem. See discussion board www.broomeman.com/mt/archives/001156.html.
While driving, the check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained until the vehicle was turned off. The consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem. Other failed parts were: Electronic control module, catalytic converter, electrical coil, and the crank sensor.
I have received only one recall request on my vehicle since I have owned it in 2001. There are now several recalls on my vehicle make and model. I have the problems with my vehicle that are described in a couple of the different recalls. I called Nissan to find out why I was never notified of the recalls listed. They informed me that my vehicle because of the VIN number did not fall under the recall. I explained that I have the exact problem described in the recall. The told me that I am just having the same problem and it has nothing to do with the recall.
While driving at 35 mph vehicle stalled and shut down in the middle of the highway. Before total shut down steering wheel and brakes locked up, almost resulting in an accident. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who in turn informed the consumer that the crank positioning sensor was defective. There was a recall on this vehicle, but not for consumer's VIN number. The dealer wanted to charge consumer for recall repairs. Manufacturer was notified of the problem.
Defective crank position sensor, which caused engine to cease twice while driving. Car was towed to dealer, who said they would look at it. Meanwhile, went to Nissan website and found the exact cause. I then called Nissan Consumer Affairs and was informed my car should have been recalled. I then called dealer's svc mgr, who said he wasn't sure. I told him I spoke with their consumer dept and they confirmed the car had a recall problem. He called back 2 hrs later and said my car was fixed. I asked about the $65 towing refund. He said to call Nissan Consumer Affairs. All owners of 2001 Nissan should immediately be notified of this danger.
The vehicles VIN was not included in a recall related to the camshaft sensors which caused the vehicle to stall while driving (recall number 01V-357000).
