This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
2001 Nissan Sentra. Consumer is requesting reimbursement for repairs. Consumer states that the vehicle has experienced stalling while driving and stopping. Recall for the crank and cam sensors. Dealer denied that the vehicle was included in the recall. Nissan informed the lawyer the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. Recall# 01V357000 (lawyer wrote in on behalf of client).
: the contact stated while driving at no particular speed, the vehicle stalled and the "check engine soon" lamp remained illuminated. Intermittently, the vehicle restarted without having to remain in the off position for several minutes. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection and remains for additional testing. A NHTSA recall, # 01V357000, was performed on the vehicle concerning, the engine and gasoline several years ago; however, the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.
After running normally, my car suddenly quit starting, and left me stranded with my child across town. I towed it to a Firestone service station for repair only to find out the failure was a cam shaft sensor. The repair station then found out for me that my car had 3 open recalls which I was never notified of. I have now paid for another tow to get my car to a dealership to have these "covered" repairs completed. Now, Nissan refuses to pay for any of my tows or the bill I had to pay Firestone for "diagnostic services".
Nissan Sentra 2001, problems with steering and brakes. The consumer was never notified of 2 recalls before the failure occurred. The dealer informed the consumer that corrosion and a loose battery terminal caused the vehicle to become inoperative. The dealer stated either recall could have caused the vehicle to stall.
The consumer took the vehicle in for a recall for the check engine light. The light is still on. The manufacture stated that there was no more they could do, without a cost to the consumer.
I took my car to the dealership to have the sensor replaced due to a recall. Prior to having the recall repairs done my car had no major problems except the service engine soon light would not go off (it has been on since 40K miles). Now my car stalls every time I slow down to stop. If I had an automatic transmission I would have to pull off the road to restart my car. Since I have a clutch I can pop the clutch to restart the car because I am still drifting. The dealership also tried to tell me that the service engine soon light was not on due to the recall but because the catalytic converter was not working properly. The service engine soon light no longer comes on, but my car stalls consistently. I will never buy another Nissan. I thought they were reliable cars. But after having to deal with the service department and having a service engine soon light come on soon after the warranty expired I have learned my lesson.
The engine completely stopped in the middle of the road and wouldn't restart. The problem was related to the engine sensor. The vehicle would lurch forward. The consumer received a recall notice two after the incident regarding an engine sensor. The consumer was also told the vehicle needed a new transmission.
My 2001 Nissan Sentra SE 2.0 litre is in the habit of "dying" while traveling. If there were no shoulder to pull onto and restart the car a serious rear end collision would occur. Nissan wants me to pay for repairs and will reimburse me if the 2.0 liter engine receives a recall like the 1.8 and 2.5 liter engines did for the same scenario. What gives?
Car died in intersection due to faulty sensor. Many Sentra have been recalled for this exact problem, mine is not one of them. Nissan will not replace my sensors.
Car died in intersection, for the second time, due to faulty sensors. Many Sentra have been recalled for this exact problem, mine is not one of them. Nissan will not replace my sensors.
While the vehicle was parked with the engine running it stalled without warning. The consumer attempted to restart the vehicle several time, but the engine would not restart. The dealer was notified and stated that the crank position sensor needed to be replaced under recall 01V357000. The consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall. The consumer stated that his vehicle was manufactured 7 days after the recall ended.
Received recall notice 01V357000. Consumer's "engine" light is illuminated, but the dealer states that the vehicle's problem has nothing to do with the recall and is a warranty issue. Therefore, the dealer is refusing to service, free of charge, under recall.
Vehicle experienced the same defect with its crank position sensor as stated in recall 01 V 357 000, but the dealership doesn't know if the this vehicle is included due to VIN, and consumer was never notified.
While driving at 35 mph, with no warning the vehicle stalled, and it was difficult to control the vehicle. The dealer notified. The vehicle would crank but not start. The dealer found the sensor circuit cam and crank sensor were bad and replaced them. Recall #01V357000
While I was driving down the highway the engine stopped running and the service engine warning light came on. It was very hard to steer while traveling that speed and to get acroos the traffic so I could pull off of the highway. I had to have it towed to pat peck Nissan in gulfport, Mississippi. They fixed the car and said that it was the crank position sensor. I asked if there was a recall on this and they said no. After I got home I looked on your website and found that there is a recall on this for the 2001 Nissan Sentra manufactured on January 2000 through May 2001. The manufactured date on my car is April of 2001. I called Nissan and they said that my car did not qualify for the recall. I do not understand if my car is in the manufactured date why it does not qualify. This could have caused a serious accident, not only me but the other drivers around me. Please take a look at this and see if the recall was overlooked before someone is serious injured. Thanks for your time. Kevin carpenter
Engine quit while driving on interstate without warning. Engine check light came on. Car had no power. Car had to be towed. Told that crank position sensor needed to be replaced. This was replaced and then told that vehicle was still not working and that the wire harness was broken. The computer and wiring were moving around. Waited for this part from April 24th to May 31st. This part was replaced on June 3rd and was told that engine would still not run. I have been without my car since April 22nd; please give me more information.
Consumer states while driving, vehicle was not getting enough engine power. Consumer is unable to drive vehicle as a result of concern for potential accident or crash.
