Her daughter had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who repaired the transmission housing; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was brought back to the mechanic who then notified the local dealer of the failure. The mechanic was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty; however, the local dealer agreed to cover half the cost for a new transmission. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
