While driving home from vacation the battery light came on. Short time later car started acting up and losing acceleration. We were on jersey turnpike and was very dangerous trying to get across 3 lanes. When tried to restart I got the clicking sound that usually means a dead battery.
I choose to have car towed home because not sure if alternator or battery I didn't want to take chance of getting stuck again.
Cost $176 to get towed home. I charged the battery at home and car started so that tells me bad alternator. Until we broke down car was running on battery alone. Good thing I didn't just have it boosted. With a fully charged battery you can travel 50 to 90 miles with a boost maybe 10 miles.
Nissan service verified it was a bad alternator and are ordering a new one.
Why does a car with11,000 miles need a new alternator?
