A/C not working properly A/C not working properly

Like many other people on this forum I had issues with my 2014 Nissan Rogue air conditioning. When the weather is hot outside we keep having an issue where after a short amount of time the cold air starts to slow down from the vents and gets to a point where it actually stops putting any cold air into the car. The fan is still running but nothing is coming out of the vents no matter what we do to adjust the fan speed or which vents it blows out.

I took the car into the dealership on at least 5 separate occasions and they were never able to "replicate" the issue and kept telling us there is nothing they could do. I finally pushed them to look internally to see if other people have had any similar issues and what they did to fix the problem. Once they finally stopped telling me they couldn't recreate it the dealer found some internal resources that lead them to replace the "heater box" or the HVAC Case (I've heard it called both). This is basically the entire system vent system that sits behind the dashboard.

The cost to replace it was covered under my extended warranty but if not it would have been very expensive. The cost without warranty was $2000 because they need to take the dashboard apart and basically replace the entire unit.

I added two picture to this post as well - Whenever I had the issue with my AC not blowing air I pulled the car over and got some pictures of the AC lines in the engine - you can see that they are completely covered in ICE and as I stood there for a few minutes and had the AC off you could see that it started to melt. From my discussion with the technician he mentioned that the freezing compressor is due to inadequate insulation around the heater box.

Bought this car brand new 7/3/14. First week, drove 267 miles to Florida from GA in JULY. On the way back to GA, after about an hour, maybe hour and a half in the car, the a/c quit blowing. Blower was fully operating as you could hear it and if you changed the flow of air, it obviously got louder.

Stopped at a rest stop in the middle of FL summer and popped the hood to see the condenser was totally frozen. Sat for a few min (gave time to thaw) and turned air back on and it worked. Since then (after multiple discussions with the dealer and each summer same prob), still no fix. Still no recall. Each summer, I just wait for it to quit working. I have to turn the heat on full blast (when it's 95+ degrees outside) to thaw out the condenser, and the air will work fine after that's done. THIS IS A PROBLEM.

I paid way too much money for a brand new car that I've had issues with since the week I bought it. Since Nissan mechanics can't "duplicate" the problem, they won't look too far into it. I think the system needs to have a vacuum pulled on it. Refill with freon. If prob isn't corrected, then condenser replaced on Nissan's dime.

3rd time the air in the cabin of our 2014 Nissan Rogue has stopped blowing into the cabin. It's going somewhere, because you can hear the blower blowing like crazy, but no air is coming out. Each time this happens, we have been on the highway about 1-2 hrs into 4-6 hr drives. Even turning off the A/C won't get the air to divert into the cabin. Even if the compressor is frozen, I should still get air to blow into the cabin. Whatever engineer designed the system should be required to sit in a car, with the sun shining through the window with no air blowing until they fix the system for everyone.

Haven't had time to fix it yet because I'm busy. Car is blowing heat instead of a/c. I honestly think I am going to die in this car of dehydration and am so disgusted in Nissan as my mechanic told me that this is a huge problem with the Rogues and he actually recommended that I sell the thing. I will never ever buy a Nissan again. CRV for me!

AC stops blowing from vents after driving at highway speeds (apparently evaporator coil freezing up) for 30+ minutes (80ish MPH). drove it straight to nearest dealer 1st time it happened after 1-1/2 hrs driving. Service manager identified problem and temp solution, turn off AC until defrosts... Nice... I live in south Florida. We were on our way to meet friends and 100 miles from home so could not leave car. took it to local dealer twice... guess what, cannot duplicate problem so no fix (They drove it around but no luck.) it keeps happening now and no resolution until I can drive the ... also, They tell me basically I can't drive the car with outside air too humid (does it really say that in the owners manual?). Never heard of such a thing. Found a guy on Reddit who says he got a call from dealer saying they knew what the prob was but he has not gotten back to me... So basically I have a car I can't take on road trips until I waste half my day trying to make it happen near my dealership and drive straight there... Nissan Customer service, same story... no dup, no fix.. really, Ac has always been sub-standard in this car.... Any others out there with similar issues?

AC working intermittently. The first time the problem surfaces, AC failed totally that no air blowing out at all regardless the fan speed. After the car was parked for an hour under the sun, AC came back.

2 weeks later when I was on a road trip, I had only the vent on (AC was off). However, I got cold air blowing out from the registers on the driver side, but hot air blowing out from registers at the passenger side. I switched to windshield defogger, but no air coming out.

My car was only two years old, I seriously don't expect any of the above to happen.

A/C quits working properly. Happened last year 2 or3 times and dealer replaced a control module. Seemed to fix problem. Has happened again this summer a couple of times. Last time was in June.

The a/c worked fine on a 1 or 2 level blower and then stops blowing cold air and the air level decreases. After playing with the a/c controls for a period of time turning the system on and off, playing with the various settings and it will finally come back on and function normally. Not nice when its 90+ outside.

Currently at the dealer. They haven't been able to determine what the problem is yet. Still trouble shooting. Hopefully will find out what the problem is. Will report what the fix is

Problem has occurred several times. Driving with the a/c on, usually level 2 and all of sudden the cabin feels warmer. Turned the vent speed up to level 3 but did not feel a change in the pressure of the air coming out. Sometimes when this happens, the vent speed will actually change after a few minutes, but we parked the vehicle before this happened on this instance. Taking it to a different Nissan dealership to hopefully get an answer.

I know it's hot in Arizona. I get that, but still expect my a/c on a fairly new vehicle to work properly. I have had this issue several times. While driving the a/c is working great, it feels great in the cabin. I usually drive with the a/c vent speed set as level 1 or 2. This time it was on level two. Then all of sudden I felt like the cabin felt a little warmer and so did my husband. We turned it up to the 3 level and the pressure of the air coming out of the vent didn't change. About a minute or two later, the air pressure changed to what it should have been at a level three.

The compressor must have not been the problem, because after just 2 days the issue started again. The car switches from inside air to outside air and the compressor won't come on to give us cold air. Have to go back AGAIN and I will let you know if we wasted another day at the dealer without a fix.

My AC vents keeps on opening up for no reason and thus blowing hot air instead of cold air in this hot Texas weather. It doesn't matter how much you press the to close vent button, it will not close. The problem is that it is not happening all the time but intermittently. At times it will happen once a week, sometimes the whole week. There are also times that it will take 15 mins or more for my car to get cold. Went to the dealer 2x already and all that they can say is that they cannot duplicate the problem, so they can't fix it. Sometimes the passenger air bag will light up although my wife is sitting perfectly. I will try to make a video to show you what I am talking about. This is very frustrating especially if you are driving with temp. above 100.

A/C not coming out the correct vents. Freezing my feet when I had it on face. Then A/C only worked half-assed--barely cool in 90 degree heat and blower not working--low volume coming out face vents. A/C stays on despite shutting it off--need to turn it on and then back off to get it to shut off. Heat not hot, blower not working effectively, hardly any volume coming out by feet.
