2011 Nissan Rogue with less than 48k miles with CVT transmission that is making a clicking/whirring sound at deceleration and at low to mid speeds. Nalley Nissan service department diagnosed and stated transmission in poor condition and needs to be replaced. Quote of just under $4k.

These known problems with the CVT technology prompted Nissan to extend warranties for several model years (2003 through 2010 models and then 2012 and later models) to 120k miles or 10 years. I fall well within these limits for both mileage and age. Because mine is a 2011 Nissan Consumer Affairs is treating this as an out of warranty claim.This is a common problem and it makes no sense to me that one year was skipped, yet has a factory installed CVT.

I am hoping they do the right thing and will apply the same warranty they have provided all other years .

I had read in reviews before buying my car that the cabin noise was very high but recently I've noticed this whining sound gradually get louder. I had my CV joints fixed on both front wheels and thought this would help being that there needed to be replaced but that has had no effect on the noise. Now I'm reading others complain saying this is a problem with the transmission. I haven't yet had it checked out. This really upsets me because I've been diligent about getting my oil changes on time and even had my transmission oil changed at about the 60,000 mile mark. I'll be taking this in to get checked soon its just a pain because I need to drive an hour and a half to a dealership.

Update from Aug 21, 2017: It now appears that the "noise" is actually my tires. When I purchased the car used the dealership was eager to point out that they had put new tires on the car for me. I've now been told this brand of Fusion tires is really noisy and now that I've put a lot of miles on them and the tread is really bare they're so loud people will ask me whats wrong with my car if its the first time they've been in it. So far my transmission seems to be running well so lets hope once I replace my tires with a new better brand that this will eliminate my problem.

The CVT suddenly began making a whirring, whining noise that sounded somewhat like a fan with something caught in the blades. After some online research I took it to a repair shop where I was told that it was the CVT going bad, and that total failure could happen at any time. Replacement costs, depending on whether a used or re-built transmission was used, ranged from $2,100 to $4,500. Upon looking into warranty for this problem, I found that I fell into the "notch", where the years before mine had 120,00 mile warranties, and the models 2 years after had the "million mile" drive train warranty. I have decided that my best bet is to just throw in the towel and buy a replacement vehicle.

My Nissan Rouge started slipping and making a whining noise. I was on the interstate and it would not go past 40 mph it also would not go when at a complete stop. I had a wreck due to the transmission which failed on Washington rd. I have the extended warranty although Nissan said the coolant would not be covered under warranty. I was quoted $1100 for them to add a coolant. I then discovered a lot of cases with same problems. I did call back and informed Nissan that they would be responsible for coolant. I have a rental now and don't plan on the expense due to the manufacture defect. if needed I have a lawyer.

Update from May 4, 2015: gear was also stuck. would not go into drive or reverse. I had to use key lock
