CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Nissan Quest is great in terms of low complaints, but it also has an abysmal crash test rating for one very common type of impact.

The IIHS' "small overlap" crash test rates the vehicle's ability to protect front seat passengers when the car is impacted across 1/4th of the front bumper.

This mimics hitting a pole, or an off-center crash into another car — more common in the real world than a full frontal head-on crash.

See our crash test page for the detailed results — As you can see from the IIHS' crash test video, the Nissan Quest does not protect intrusion into the passenger space & major injury to the front seat passengers is likely.

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Quest. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was coasted off road and as the brakes were applied, the vehicle jerked while the contact attempted to accelerate. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where they stated to the contact that they could not assist her with the failure and could not diagnosis the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure would also occur when the fuel tank was less than half full. The VIN was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 4,000.

My engine keep shutting off, it happened many times when my car's fuel down to less than 25% of tank or around 60 miles left, and the car downhill only. Example: I was pulling out my car out from drive way and down to street, it keep shutting off, or my car cutting fuel. Couldn't pull my car until my car put in ignition on and have someone to push to level on the street. Then my car can start on the engine. It was so dangerous, because the brake was off and engine was off, have someone to push the car. Also, I am afraid when I am driving on the road, if suddenly happen like that. I am not sure what to do... this is car always drive with the my kids.

While driving in a local street, engine turned off. Had about 1/4 tank of gas left in tank. I don't know if it was due to going down hill. When engine turned off I was able to roll down the hill until I pulled over at a flat part of the road. I was able to turn minivan back on once I stopped and waited a few seconds. Incident happened again on 2/20/2012. Again, there was about 1/4 tank of gas left. Went over a major bridge and on the way down the engine turned off again. I was able to roll down to a flat surface. Car didn't turn on in my first attempt but did turn on second attempt about a minute later.

Engine stalls and sometimes will not restart unless the vehicle is rolled to a different location. The display reads there is 50+ miles of gas left. It has done this once while sitting in traffic almost causing an accident.

I purchased my Nissan November of 2011. On January 7th 2012 as I was driving going down hill on hwy 70 in blue springs going on a on ramp which is down hill going approxamately 45-50 mph and my engine out of no where just shut off while I was driving. I had my wife and three kids in the car with me and this is a serious safety issue. I am in the marine corps stationed in Arizona and I had to go back to my duty station there. This occurance has happened many more times with my wife, on one incident almost caused a serious accident (which could of killed someone) and my wife and children where she was driving in the middle lane and randomly the engine cutoff on her on highway 70 going about 70mph and it wasnt even on a hill it was on flat pavement by the grace of god she made it over to the side of the hwy and once stopped she couldnt restart for about 10 minutes I asked her if she was out of fuel she said no it had about half a tank. My wife is terrified to drive this car terrified and she has to drive it to take my son to school and I am not even able to be there to help address the situation. This is a serious issue and I am contacting Nissan corporate and addressing it. I am extremely worried for my families safety and im making payments on a vehicle that seems to be a death trap. Anything you can do to help me and my family would be greatly appreciated.

I was approaching a red light, applying brakes, so car was going about 2mph when it suddenly began shaking and rumbling. I was on a small down hill incline. The engine just cut off and the car did not allow me to press on the brakes any longer. The car continued rolling through the red light/ intersection when I applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Put car in park and attempted restarting 4 times, but it would not allow me to press my foot on the brake in order to start the car. After 4 attempts, I was able to get the car to start. Fuel indicator told me I had 33 miles to empty. I drove another 10 miles and filled the gas.

As my wife drove our brand new Quest down a slope to make a left hand turn, the Quest died. She stopped the car and tried to restart it to no avail. When I arrived I had her attempt to start as I listened to the engine, it was turning and the car had power but it was acting like it had no fuel. The gauge showed a little over 1/4 tank. When the tow truck arrived he took us to a gas staton first, after fueling the car started. When I submitted it to the Quest dealership the service chief said this was the third time he's seen this happen in the past month! the fact that Nissan has clear evidence of a problem that can prove very, very, dangerous yet has not issued a recall is very disturbing. Please address, thank you.

I was driving down a moderate incline on low fuel when the engine stopped running. I was able to safely pull to the curb and restart the engine. I took the car into the Nissan dealership to be looked at and was told there were 3 other cars in line with the same problem. Nissan is well aware of the problem. I was then told not to let the fuel tank get below 1/2 tank.
