I am absolutely fuming at the fact that Nissan refused to cover the cost for a rail cover on my 08 Nissan Quest. I feel that this is a manufacturing issue & they should override the warranty.
While driving off a very busy bridge on a main highway, we drove over an unavoidable pot hole. We heard a noise as we past the pot hole which sounded like something fell inside the rear compartment. We came to realize that the right side rail cover was missing when we reached the 1st rest area an hr away. We know for a fact that it fell off during the impact from the pot hole. I brought the van to my usual Nissan service facility to get replaced and according to them the Service Manager looked at it and determined that Nissan would not cover it because it was over the 36,000, and I didn't have the part. They said the part would cost approx $350.00 to be replaced, so i refused to pay for it to be replaced until i spoke to someone. I couldn't afford that price so i went to a local licensed repair facility and had it replaced for less than $300.00 to avoid damage to the exposed mechanical to the sliding door.
When this repair person repaired he came to the conclusion that the only screw that would hold the rail cover in place was missing. This screw belonged screwed on a piece of metal behind the rear tail light. He then checked the other side to make sure the other one had it and surprisingly it did...but the only reason it had a rusty screw was because they had to repair the mechanicals on this door when i bought van in 08 and noticed it didn't have one. They never bothered checking the other side.
I placed a complaint with Nissan Regional office who then called me back to say that they would not cover it for the same above reasons and, in addition to the fact that i had another repair facility replace it. Still trying to get reimbursed for it.
