On May 8, 2015, as I was driving home from work my car completely shut off on me while I was making a left turn. COMPLETELY SHUT OFF where everything from the gas pedal to the steering wheel locked. I was lucky no one was behind me and hit me or that my kids weren't in the car. I couldn't even move it to the side of the road because I was alone. My gas gauge meter showed over 1/4 tank of gas. The trip button sensor showed me 31 miles of gas left in the car. I could not understand why the car would have shut off on me like that. I had to call a co-worker to come help me. When my co-worker arrived he saw that my gas tank and trip button showed I had more then enough gas to get home as I only live 14 miles from my job.
My co-worker went and purchased a gas container and filled it with $5 of gas and put it into my car to see if that was the problem and of course my car turned on and I was able to get home. I took it immediately to my mechanic and he thought is was the fuel pump. He gave me an estimate of approximately $500 to repair it. After a few weeks of saving up to fix it, I took it in for repairs on June 2, 2015.
On June 7, 2015 as I was driving home again from a family member's house, my car shut down on me again in the same manner as the first time, right in the middle of the road. This time I was with my boyfriend and my 5 kids and the gas gauge meter read 1/2 tank of gas and the trip button sensor showed me 51 miles. I again was lucky that there was no car behind us as the car completely shut off and the brakes and steering wheel locked. It could have caused a major accident and deaths.
I took it again to my mechanic on June 25, 2015, where my mechanic incurred the charge of replacing the fuel pump again with a new one. However, that still did not fix the problem. My mechanic began researching and found an article stating that there have been cases of 2007, 2008 and 2009 Nissan Quest having the same problem.
My boyfriend took the car into Nissan today, June 30, 2015 and he was told that the 2008 Nissan Quest have not been recalled because there have not been enough complaints about the same problem. They said they could fix the problem but that is was a $136 charge just to do a diagnostics and the the cost of repair and labor.
That is ridiculous!!! If they know that it has been reported on other vehicles that there is a problem they at least should not be charging just to look at it.
Now I have to drive around with a gas container in my car and have to manually keep track of my gas.
It started happening after my miles reached approximately 110,000-114,000 miles.
I received a recall letter from Nissan in January 2015 regarding the fuel gauge. Mine went bad on 4/9/15 and they are now telling me my VIN is not covered because there were no other complaints. It costs over $600 to replace. I now have to keep track manually of the gas in my tank.
EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND INCONVENIENT!!
