Airbag deployed while husband was driving daughter home. There was no collision or accident, absolutely nothing to cause an air bag to deploy. My husbands hands were burned and cut and my daughter was scared out of her wits. Thank God they didn't get into an accident as a result because the air bag wouldn't have helped.
We're angry as hell b/c Nissan has had the van for 4 weeks and just called to say they are not responsible and won't pay to have it fixed. Nissan claims that the sensor picked up that the van was going to get in an accident and thus the air bag deployed. They claim that something scratched the muffler. I live in the northeast and have probably hit a thousand pot holes and they could have dented the muffler, which still shouldn't have caused the air bag to deploy.
The worse part is we have been ridiculously inconvenienced for 4 weeks by not having a vehicle to go to work and had to rely on others and Nissan refused to give us a rental. So, apparently I was driving a ticking time bomb for 8 years and Nissan doesn't find anything wrong with that. They are completely satisfied that their sensors are faulty and could result in the injury or death of their customers! I'm afraid to drive that van again and don't want my family in it ever again for fear that it could happen again and someone will get hurt or killed.
I will never purchase another Nissan and will do everything in my power to let the public know how they disregard the safety of their customers. DON"T BUY NISSAN
