On 6/30/01, when I started the car in my house garage and heard a deafening explosion with a big smoke that like a bomb exploded. My daughter and I was shocked unconsciously for seconds. After checking and found that explosion caused by battery which I replaced in Sept. 1999 with wondries Nissan. At that time I was told it had 4 years warranty. On 7/2/01 8:00 a.M., I call Nissan (800-647-7261) and talked to Ms. Mendozn. She asked me to tow my van to the nearest dealor gunderson Nissan. After checking, I was told the alternator is over charged and caused the battery explosion. For this kind of problem, Nissan won't take any responsibility for this incident, and I should pay for replacing these two defective parts. I am very angry about this kind of answer. I think Nissan should take responsibility for this incident for following reasons: 1. I just got 60,000 miles maintenance service with wondries Nissan in this February and they should find something wrong. 2. this is unnormal and very dangerous incident. It will cause a car accident if this happened on the freeway or cause a fire, because the parts problems. 3. the car designer should predict this kind of problem and design the safety measure. I hope you can investigate this incident.
