I am your average driver, just commute to work where the vehicle gets about two hours of driving a day.
Last week, white smoke starts to come out of the exhaust. I phone the garage and the guy says it could be a number of things like a gasket gone and water in the engine or maybe the turbo. I bring the car into a Nissan dealer. I get an estimate of €3800 ($4900) for repairs. They say that the rocker cover gasket is gone, the alternator belt needs replacing, the anti roll bars are faulty, the turbo inlet is faulty and the turbo needs to be replaced. The bill also included front tyres are worn and the brake pads need done. I asked what the cost was for just the turbo. They gave me a cost of €1,900 ($2,450). This gave me the hump because two years ago I had to replace the shocks and all the tyres at a cost of €2000 ($2,580).
So I was thinking, is this just hard luck or have others had the problem. I asked around and found quite quickly that three of my friends also had problems with the turbo. I contacted Nissan (Ireland) and lodged a complaint, saying that I had the car serviced regularly with a Nissan dealer up to a couple of years ago when I got a relative who owns a garage to do it. I know it is way outside the warranty but how could so much be wrong with a car that is just five years old. I wanted Nissan to help out with just the pairs on the turbo, they said no. They said that the vehicle was outside warranty and that it was not serviced each year by a Nissan dealer. Anyone else had the same problems?
So, I am glad I got this off my chest.
