On January 11, 2013 I had a shop replace the timing chain and guides on my 1993 Nissan pickup. In September of 2014 I gave the truck to my son. On October 21, 2015 while my son was driving on a freeway the engine just quit with a loud bang. After having it towed to the repair shop that had replaced the timing chain we were told that the timing chain had failed. The original timing chain lasted over 100,000 miles. The replacement didn't last 26,000 miles.
The truck is too old to bother repairing now, but it is the only transportation my son has to get to work. I feel like the chain or guides were defective or the shop installation was faulty. The repair shop is a large chain and says they can't repair the engine under their warranty. I am very disappointed in the shop's reply and will never use them again. I have found lawsuits on the web concerning defective Nissan timing chains.
I would like to know if the Nissan timing chain I used to replace my old one is one of the defective parts from Nissan.
