Loud Rattling Sound From Engine
2017 Nissan Pathfinder
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Nissan dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2017 was redesigned with new fascia and headlights, but what will be particularly interesting to watch will be the new, direct-injected V6 engine with CVT. Nissan's history with CVTs has been shaky at best.

My 2017 had a rattling noise coming from the engine. At first I thought it might be the intermediate exhaust. I schedule an appointment with the dealership and after 5 days of them going over the car, I was informed I needed a new engine for the price of $11,000.000.
The next step in the process was them bringing in an adjuster from the extended warranty company as well as sending videos to Nissan Directly. Both of whom rejected responsibility because the engine allegedly had visible signs of “SLUDGE.â€
I am only able to produce a handful of receipts from the dealership regarding maintenance records to prove that I had all service done. I never thought I would need to save receipts because I take immaculate care of my vehicles. After doing several searches on the internet, this seems to be a very common problem, and I wouldn’t be surprised, if there isn’t a major recall on this vehicle sometime soon. How can a multi billion dollar company immediately blame the consumer, and not look into their oil pumps and other issues which stem these problems.
This was my first Nissan in 20 years and most likely the last one based on the responses I have received from their warranty company as well as NISSAN COMPLAINTS. Fortunately, my dealership has been incredible to work with., Thank you COCHRAN PITTSBURGH!
