I have noticed this for awhile, but it has gotten worse. I am now at 6800 miles, and when I pulled into my driveway last night, my gas gauge read that I had 86 miles to empty. This morning, taking my kids to school, I all of a sudden had 56 miles to empty. When I got to the stop light not even a mile away with the school to my left, my low fuel light came on, and by the time I turned into the parking lot, 2 minutes later, my electronic gauge was blinking at me and the actual gas gauge was at 0. I then had to wait in the drop off line hoping I wouldn't run out of gas while I was dropping them off. (I would of totally ruined their lives haha!) I was so nervous driving, trying to make it to the gas station. I made it. Filled all the way up and it only allowed me to fill up 15 gallons. Not my normal 16. So apparently it just wanted to give me a heart attack early this morning. How am I even supposed to know how much gas I have left? Guess? Just keep it topped off every damn day? Dumb.
