On June 9, 2014, at approximately 9:15 am while driving down crain hwy on route 5 with my sunroof retracted. Without warning I heard this loud explosion. I thought that I had blown a tire or someone shot at me. I kept driving for about a half a mile until I got to a traffic light. While waiting for the light to turn green, I looked up and I saw that there was noise coming from my 2013 Nissan Pathfinder platinum sunroof. I closed the sunroof slide because I didn't want any glass to fall on me or into my vehicle. Once I arrived at church, I pulled my sunroof forward to see what was going on. The sunroof exploded outward and all the glass landed inside the headliner because my sunroof was retracted, there weren't any cars in front of me for a rock or some other hard object to hit the sunroof, and there wasn't an overpass for something to fall down from up top. On June 11th, I brought my SUV into tischer Nissan service manager so they could see my vehicle and repair the damaged sunroof. My vehicle has 23,300 miles on it. I showed him stacks of complaints about this sunroof defect and safety issue. I was told that Nissan regional manager decided that Nissan wasn't going to pay for my damaged sunroof. The justification was maybe a semi truck may have kicked a rock inside the sunroof and over a period of time, the rock put pressure on the pressure point of the glass which caused the glass to explode. He told me to contact my insurance company. Quite frankly that is an insult to my intelligence. On June 11th, I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs. I was given a case#. on June 17th, I was informed that my sunroof damage would not be covered under warranty because there are no known defects, something hard must have it, it is temper glass, and to contact my insurance.
