We purchased a new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder on approx 6/2013 and now have 10,000 miles on it. The last few weeks we have been noticing at slow speeds approx 25 mph we are experiencing a shudder in the transmission. It is happening fairly consistent now at 25mph and under a load like a slight incline. It requires a release of the throttle and reapply to get the shudder to stop and start pulling again. This is a potentially very dangerous situation if you are crossing oncoming traffic and have to release the throttle, not a good thing! I am now reading of many other owners who are experiencing the same type issue and there are now 4 service bulletins relating to transmission issues on this vehicle and they are not fixing the problems. I am schedule for my first appointment next week to address this issue. We have been a very faithful Nissan owner of 3 prior Nissan, but this will be my last!

I purchased my Pathfinder in July 2013 and have had 2 issues. The first is a sputtering with the gas pedal which occurs quite frequently under low speeds. Took it in for evaluation and Nissan said that's how cvt transmissions work and that it was normal. Very strange. The second issue I am currently having is the most concerning. While traveling at various speeds, when I push on the gas pedal there is no power at all and no acceleration. At times the pedal can be all the way to the floor and then 2 to 3 seconds later the acceleration comes back. It has happen to me in a passing situation on the freeway and while making a turn at an intersection and almost caused an accident. The car is currently in service to be evaluated and they have said unless they can replicate the issue on their end they have no solution, I have 3 kids that ride in the vehicle on a daily basis and this is a huge safety concern from a consumer standpoint. I have documented with Nissan Consumer Affairs in case something happens as a result of this, but I must say as this car was a huge investment for my wife and our family we are extremely concerned and disappointed because we love the car so much and wouldn't expect this from a brand new vehicle. I have read a high number of common issues just like mine and I just don't get how Nissan has not done anything about this. It seems as if the 2013 model has a number of issues.

Car jutters when accelerating after a stop and when turning. The car was purchased in June, and has done it about 15 times since. The first time we took it into the dealership, they reset something in the transmission and said that should fix the problem. Well, it didn't fix the problem. We took the car back to the dealership twice, they test drove it and said they never experience the juttering. Therefore, they haven't done anything about it. Now it's December and I received a recall notice for something else regarding the antilock brake system software. I am very dissatisfied with this car and the service that Nissan has provided; they haven't helped me one bit even after filing a complaint with Nissan corporate.

I have a recurring issue with my 2013 Pathfinder shuddering and losing power at low speeds (20 - 30mph). This issue occurs daily and appears to be getting worse with approximately 15,000 miles on the vehicle. The shuddering and lose of power last for approximately 15 seconds and requires me to press the accelerator and power through the issue which is a safety concern. I have contacted the dealer who was aware of the issue and stated that Nissan sent each dealer a "video" to help assess the issue and that most vehicles won't qualify based on the parameters set by the manufacturer. He said the real problem is going to be "figuring out how to fix all the other vehicles that don't qualify.

Intermittent transmission shudder ranging from mild to violent with accompanying decrease of power. Shudder primarily occurs at low speed in the 20-40 mph range but has also occurred at highway speeds when transmission is not shifting. Shudder seems to be caused by a variety of variables including speed and degree of inclination of the road. Loss of power has occurred in potentially dangerous passing situations.

I recently bought a new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder- at first the rubber seals flew up while driving on the interstate- my right side panel sticks out by the headlight (in which they told me I must have been hit because there were a few scratches under the bumper and that's the design(what a bunch of crap) main concern is the sputtering that I encounter while driving. I paid too much for this vehicle and every dealer I take it (taking it 3 times) tell me Nissan requires the data from the computer to diagnose. You can look on the computer and see how many people have the same issue and every dealership drives my car for miles and wastes my gas - to come back and say....sorry I believe you but I need the data and at this time its not doing it(sorry call Consumer Affairs). This is my first Nissan and I am heated... how can a company do this to its consumers who spend a good amount of money on their product that has alot of defects. Nissan needs to do whats right and take care of their customers- I promise if this sputtering happens and causes me an accident with my children in the car - there is going to be heck to pay!!!! I bought this car because I wanted a safe reliable vehicle... I am so frustrated!!!!

My transmission began slipping, that was the first time I noticed it distinctly. The other times had been going up hills or slowing down. I came within a couple of feet from rear-ending the car in front of me because my car didn't shift downward at a stop light. A minute later I had to pull over because my car wouldn't shift into 3rd gear (automatic). This same thing happened several more times, I took it in to Nissan they put a stop-gap fix, a "modulator" on it. They already had reports knowing that wasn't going to fix it, but did it anyway. Nissan didn't test drive it, just gave it back to me. I drove it less than 2 miles & turned around, they kept my vehicle for 5 weeks, put in a refurbished transmission (in my new car). The transmission is starting to slip, again. They told me I could get compensation, but lied. I'm scared to drive it, but don't know what to do! we can't afford another vehicle. This is a lemon and needs to be recalled! the value has already started to drop more than $10,000. I spent several days and lots of gas money driving up to pick up my car, that wasn't ready! the repair shop was nice, but the corporate offices lied and were disrespectful every time.

1. while attempting to leave a school parking lot (going in a straight line with other parents' cars) at 10 mph the engine shuddered and the vehicle jerked back and forth as if it transmission couldn't engage power to the wheels. The shuddering stopped after a couple seconds and I was able to leave the school parking lot safely. (vehicle has shuddered while driving straight three times in the last month.) 2. pulled into a roundabout at 15 mph and the engine shuddered, jerking the Pathfinder back and forth. When exiting the roundabout at nearly 20 mph the vehicle shuddered again for a couple seconds, but this time it was not a violent -- it only vibrated the vehicle. (vehicle has shuddered while turning at least 12 times in the last month.) 3. after turning right onto a straight street and trying to accelerate, the engine felt as if half the power were taken away. The engine revved up, but the acceleration was weak. (this has happened twice in a month.)

  • 290 miles
The incident happened while driving the vehicle home from the dealership upon purchase. The milage on the car at that time was 290 mi. The car went into a bucking/jerking/lunging when we started to accelerate from a 35 mph zone to a 55 mph. Over the next days and weeks it continued to occur while accelerating and also while maintaining consistent highway speeds. It also regularly experienced a rumble strip feel/sound when accelerating off a stop when traveling 20-40 mph. At first it happened every few days but within a month became a nearly daily experience. Nissan acknowledged that it is a problem with the transmission, but have been unable to fix our vehicle after multiple attempts. About a month after owning the veh, they performed a computer update to attempt to fix but the fix failed. A month after that they replaced the torque converter to attempt to fix. That fixed the jerking/bucking/lunging but the rumble strip shudder still persists at random times when accelerating around 20-40 mph. It happens daily for a week or so... sometimes once a day, sometimes multiple times a day... then it won't do it for a week or so... then it returns again in the same pattern. Our vehicle now has about 8200 miles and the problem continues. Nissan has failed to fix our car despite an ongoing transmission problem.

Purchased this vehicle in March 2013. Since purchase experienced numerous times transmission problem that manifests itself as vehicle shuddering when trying to make turn at low speed or from complete stop. This also happens when trying to accelerate to go onto highway, vehicle would shudder and can not accelerate until foot is taken from the gas pedal and gas pedal pressed again. I brought this to Nissan usa attention and spoke to the dealership several times. Vehicle was evaluated at the dealership service center and we were notified that the problem can not be duplicated. I tried to explain to the technician that in order to duplicate problem this vehicle have to be driven for several days if not weeks on daily basis since sometimes problem happens every three days, sometimes it happens three, four times a day. I have a feeling Nissan is trying to hide serious flaws in the design of their new Pathfinder and it is simply refusing to take care of problems. This is serious safety issue and I hope we will not wait until someone dies in the accident until Nissan takes necessary steps to fix their cvt transmission.

I purchased a new 2013 Pathfinder for myself on 4/18/2013. I started noticing a slight shudder on take off from a stop in May. We mentioned this to the dealership in early June and the immediately acknowledge there was a problem with all the new model Pathfinders. The fix was a torque converter for the cvt but the parts were on back order with no known eta. In late September they called saying they had the part and told me to bring it in for the repair. When I came for my scheduled appointment a couple days later they turned me away stating the torque converter was found not to fix the problem and they needed to completely replace the transmission. Again, the parts were on back order and no known eta. The transmission replacement was finally done 10/24/2013 and we started feeling the shuddering right away. I thought it was the transmission breaking in. The problem is much worse now with the car losing complete power and causing potential accidents. I have a 12 month old riding in this vehicle. We are currently requesting Nissan to repurchase the vehicle because the dealership says there is nothing they can do.

Pathfinder

  • 3,000 miles
We purchased our new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder on 03/16/13, from tustin Nissan in tustin, California.. at approximately 3000 miles, the vehicle's transmission began to shutter and jerk the vehicle when driven at approximately 15 to 20 miles per hour. Initially, it occurred not too often and we did not think much of it. The shuttering got much stronger as time went on and became more often. During these occurrences it appeared that the vehicle lost power which caused the vehicle to slow down. This created a safety concern due to nearly being struck by vehicles a few times while pulling out of driveways and merging into highway lanes. Its a safety issue and Nissan needs to fix. Took the car to the dealer and said we can't duplicate the issue. So not sure what to do.

While making turns from side streets into main roads trying to accelerate and merge into oncoming traffic the car will briefly accelerate then power will drop out, RPM's will jump to 4000-5000 with no acceleration leaving me in the main road with no power to accelerate and stuck at between 25-35 mph. Only way to correct problem is to hit the brakes and re accelerate. This has almost caused several accidents and has happened multiple times.

Driving along at a relatively slow pace around 45 mph the transmission shook and shudders. It feels like going over rumble strips. The vehicle has done this multiple times this weekend at 25 mph and at 45 mph. The vehicle is 2.5 months since purchased new. It has been to the dealer for this issue 500 miles ago. The transmission was replaced with a factory remanufactured transmission and is starting to do the exact same problem it had prior to the replacement. Nissan had the vehicle for 23 days to replace the trans and additionally had the vehicle for 3 days to repair the a passenger air bag seat sensors when it failed during the delivery. Nissan is aware of the problems with the Pathfinder transmissions that the buyers are having and continue to sell these vehicles to the consumers. This was a very expensive purchase and the expectations were high. Those expectations have been lost Nissan has refused to refund the purchase price to me or replace the vehicle. This is my second report to NHTSA. My first ODI was 10547158. I have sought legal counsel. In my opinion Nissan is negligent in selling these vehicle when they are aware of them having these problems with the transmissions and they have no fix that adequately solves the issue. I will return the vehicle to the dealership. This is not right that a brand new vehicle has to go back to shop for more downtime after already being out of service for 26 days out of the first 45 days of ownership.

This vehicle was purchased new in December of 2012. In less than 12 months, I have lost complete confidence in the manufacturing of the vehicle and its ability as a reliable, safe and acceptable option to meet the needs of me and my family. The details of each incident to date are listed below. The vehicle is now under review for repurchase by the corporation, and will sit in the dealership's parking lot until a resolution is reached that maintains my safety. 12/13 - 10 miles - purchased. 5/29/13 - 9,874 miles - dropped off for service, experiencing 'shudder' when accelerating after coasting, issue occurred at various of driving between speeds of 25-40mph and 1000-1500rpm. Dealer unable to replicate issue, car returned. 7/16/13 - 12,645 miles - dropped off for same issue, able to duplicate, replaced torque converter per bulletin ntb13-064A. 7/19/13 - 12,655 miles - car returned for check engine light and passenger side front wheel noise. O2 sensor failed and was replaced. Support bearing on drive axle frozen, passenger side front drive axle replaced. 9/9/13 - 15,825 miles - dropped off for continued 'shudder', similar driving conditions. Entire transmission replaced as required per ntb 13-086. 10/29/13 - 16,930 miles - returned for again experiencing 'shudder' when accelerating after coasting, issue occurred at slightly lower speeds, similar rpms. Dealer unable to replicate issue, case opened for potential repurchase.
