I purchased this vehicle new for the purpose of towing a 2,000kg caravan, (Nissan rates towing capacity at 3 ton). In May this year noticed a noise coming from gearbox vicinity. Took same to transmission workshop who initially diagnosed a faulty bearing but could not give the extent of the problem until they removed and dismantled same. On disassemble, they discovered further damage to other components. In their opinion the damage was caused by moderate to heavy towing imposing an undue load on a front needle roller bearing which eventually failed and which they stated was inadequate for the task. The clutch was also worn and had to be replaced. Last year a friend also with a D22 2007 model, at just 57.000km, unfortunately out of warranty due to time limit, suffered a similar problem requiring a total gearbox overhaul.
Both my friend and I have traveled extensive kilometers over the past years and do not subject our vehicles to undue stress. (They cost too much not to look after them) Clearly, these vehicles are not suitable to tow the capacity stated by Nissan and in my opinion Nissan is guilty of false advertising at least.
