2006 Murano purchased new with extended warranty which covered a fair number of issues. Regularly dealer serviced until May 2017 when I returned to a local mechanic who serviced, and logged, according to the service manual. Had a funny noise last summer, no indicator lights to tell me anything, so took it in, a little over 160,000 kms. No oil. Replaced oil but couldn't really find anything wrong. No blue smoke, no leaks, so mechanic says just monitor and swing by any time, if something looks, or feels odd (mechanic is great, known him for years, honest as the day is long and his garage is about 3 blocks away).
Went back for regular oil change etc and again, the oil was really low. That's when the counter guy tells me there were a few years and models of Nissan where they contracted out the manufacture of the pistons and there was an issue with them. Once again they put in a heavier oil. Last oil change and service was Jan, 2019 and of course I was down once again.
This time they put in 15/40 oil, we'll see how long it lasts. I'm at 170,000 kms now which puts my annual usage at approximately. 13,600 kms, far below the average of 20,000 kms per yr. It appears that I either keep on doing this as long as I can or I get a new, or rebuilt, engine at a minimum estimate of $5,000 Cdn.
As a pensioner, this is a big hit. In the process of drafting a letter to Nissan; we'll see if they respond, and how. In the meantime I guess its research. If anybody out there has any information that may help I would be extremely grateful.
