The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Murano. The contact noticed that the vehicle was losing power while driving at an unknown speed. A few seconds later, the vehicle regained power. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the battery and alternator; however, the vehicle still did not have power. The dealer stated that the transmission also needed to be replaced at the estimated cost of $5,000. A report was filed with the manufacturer (number 6529588) and they stated that they would call the contact back. The current and failure mileages were 78,000.

My family and I were driving our vehicle and were at a light. Our vehicle shook very hard when I applied the gas. Car would not go more than 5 miles and hour. We were on our way to the highway when it happened. Took the car home. Had it towed to dealership. They discovered that the transmission fluid had leaked out of the car. We were given three reasons for the problem. Reason 1: "O" ring on hose broke (covered under warranty) reason 2: dealer called back with a second reason. They said acid leaked from the bottom of the battery onto the transmission. (not under warranty) reason 3: when we picked up the car we were told that the battery was leaking from the top because the battery was overcharging itself. We were told that another Murano had experienced the exact same problem (battery leaking acid to transmission). Since it happened to our car and another we questioned the safety not to mention how does a battery overcharge itself. Sounds like something is causing the car to do this. Talked to dealers consumer people. Basically told us that it can't be disputed if car was fixed. Even though dealer confirmed happen to our vehicle and another (one has to wonder if it happened to another). Family and I thought it was important to report if nothing else to help track if this truly is a design issue.

After 64 days at dealership to replace faulty air bags I retrieved my car today. I drove approx 1/8 mile to the gas station on the opposite side of the street from Nissan, pulled into the gas station, turned off the ignition, gas attendant filled gas tank....then I turned the key and the car would not start. Check svc engine, airbag, seat belt lights all illuminated, but engine would not turn over. I called back to the dealership. Annoyed because I have been without my vehicle for 60 some odd days, and the very day I get it back this happened. The finale was when the service manager said he would send a tow truck, and hung up on me, after I asked how was I suppose to travel from point a to point B. I called back, another manager came over in a car with a mechanical gave me a jump start which allowed me to follow them back to the dealership where they said my battery was no good and they replaced it. A no good battery after 2 years and 31,548 miles, umm, seems strange.

On July 2, 2005 warning lights come on (brake and alternator). Since it was before a long weekend (July 4) we couldn't do too much until July 5. it was impossible to deliver vehicle to any dealer, so we were forced to put it in a local garage. Alternator failed and battery was dead after 24,000 miles and 17 months of driving the vehicle. The problem was fixed by a local mechanic, reimbursment for our expenses are under dispute with Nissan.

While driving 45 mph consumer noticed that the battery and brake light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer applied the accelerator pedal and the vehicle failed to accelerate. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced, and replaced them. However, the problem recurred. Pe04077_cat

On the evening of Aug 4, 2004, I was driving home, noticed that the battery and brake light were illuminated on my new (6500 miles) Nissan Murano. I planned to take it to the local dealer the next day, as soon as I completed two unchangeable appointments. As I started to leave the parking lot on the second appointment, the vehicle would not accelerate. I called the dealer and my husband, who came to get me. The vehicle had to be towed. Diagnosis: Failed alternator. Needless to say, I was not happy. They had to order the part, and the repair was finished on the following Tuesday, Aug 10. The service manager said he had previously had 4 or so failed alternators, and didn't understand why Nissan had not recalled the vehicles. The repair has been fine, the dealership loaned me a vehicle, even though I bought it out of town. Then I started to check the internet, and found that there are a lot of alternator failures. I am thankful that mine happed in a local parking lot instead of on the road.
