CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Nissan Maxima is a very good reliable vehicle, continuing a stretch of good model years from 2010. Beware of Maximas from 2009, and 2004-2006 though.
The 2009 Maxima has an expensive problem where the steering lock prevents the car from starting, & costs upwards of $1,000 to fix.
Nissan Maximas from 2004-2006 have a widespread transmission defect, but judging from our complaint data, Nissan fixed the transmission problem starting with the 2007 model.
car goes very slowly before transmission kicks into gear
When I purchase this car I was told that the transmission is like a tank and it will last well over the life of the car. Now I'm being told I need to replace the transmission smh
Update from Apr 13, 2017: My transmission went out and neither the dealer or Nissan was willing to help me with the expense. I talk to other maxima drivers and the same thing happen to them around the same time mines did or before. Nissan refuses to acknowledge that this years model has transmission issues.
