CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Nissan Maxima is a very good reliable vehicle, continuing a stretch of good model years from 2010. Beware of Maximas from 2009, and 2004-2006 though.
The 2009 Maxima has an expensive problem where the steering lock prevents the car from starting, & costs upwards of $1,000 to fix.
Nissan Maximas from 2004-2006 have a widespread transmission defect, but judging from our complaint data, Nissan fixed the transmission problem starting with the 2007 model.
For the 2012 Maxima, so far so good!

Seats move forward and back while in motion and braking. Feels like the seat is loosely attached to vehicle. I am concerned in an accident the seat could come loose
The driver seat of my '12 Maxima moves upon acceleration and deceleration. I've read many forums and groups and this seems to be a prevalent issue. Sreious injury could result cause you don't know if the seat will break causing loss of control. Nissan is aware of the issue yet doesn't seem to care. The dealer is also aware and shows no concern. I'm going to inform every forum and group to write a complaint on this site maybe resulting in solution.
Takata recall!! the "passenger airbag off" light is on with or without a person in the passenger seat while driving. The drivers side chair rocks when slowing down. The front end makes a knocking noise when pressing on the breaks.
Driver seat rocks back and forth during acceleration and stopping. Nissan says that it is not a problem and there is nothing they can do. Was told it was because that the seat has so many moving parts it can be loose.
The driver seat has a slight rock when taking off and breaking. I bought the car used back in October 2014 from a Honda dealer. I noticed the rocking but thought it was just a loose nut or something so I didn't look into it right away. When I took it in to the Nissan dealer they said the frame was broken. I was told it was no longer under warranty. I contacted Nissan usa and was told they had no known issue with the seat and that it was out of warranty and they would not fix it. My main concern is that the seat my come completely apart or something while I'm breaking and cause me to have an accident. I not sure why if they had the same issue back in 2009 and found some type of fix why want they fix it now before someone gets hurt.

Driver seat rocks slightly on take off acceleration or slowing of vehicle. Has existed since car was new and recurs frequently. Nissan has issued service bulletin for 2009-2010 service year for problem (ntb09-092B) but has not extended it to subsequent years although user complaints are rampant. I am concerned that seat could come loose in collision. Dealer claims they cannot replicate the issue to avoid warranty repair. Nissan fails to acknowledge larger quality and potential safety issue on multiple years of Maxima model..
