CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Nissan Maxima has a significant trend of timing chain problems, which can ruin the engine.

Nissan used an "interference" design where the valves pop out into the path of the cylinder heads. Normally the timing chain keeps the valves opening at all the right times, but when Nissan's timing chain breaks or "jumps time", the cylinder heads smash into open valves & cause thousands of dollars of engine damage in one very quick & surprisingly unimpressive "PPPRRRRING!" sound.

Nissan Maximas from 2004-2006 have a widespread transmission defect, but judging from our complaint data, Nissan managed to fix the transmission problem for the 2007 model. The engine timing chain problems are a serious concern though.

I’m very disgusted in the quality of the paint job on my 2007 Nissan Maxima. Everywhere you go see a black Nissan and all the paint is fading clearcoat is peeling. I have an 83 Camaro and the paint job looks better than that this needs to be investigated and hope, they make things right with the consumers!! It started off with my trunk then went to the hood of the car an then on my roof it’s pretty much all over the top part. It’s sad we buy a car an take care and pride in are vehicle’s try are best to be driving in something that looks decades old. I love my car but it is embarrassing to drive around in it it’s really sad they can get away with this an again I see so many Nissans especially black that all have the same issues you please explain to me why this is?? There is something wrong a needs to be corrected!!

I’m going to continue to fight this it needs to be a recall and fixed as much as we pay for the cars this shouldn’t be happening I’m not here to just bitch and want something for free I just want the company to fix it we shouldn’t be driving around in a car that looks like hell!! I am even considering on selling it only for this reason mainly besides the front drive floor board is rusted out!! And if I do consider selling it I’m still going to fight for this problem to get resolved for anyone else that is dealing with there poor quality of paint!! And everyone I see I’m going to tell them it’s not right and to file a complaint!!

I have a 2007 CHARCOAL GREY NISSAN MAXIMA and the paint looks like CRAP!!!!! The paint job looks so weathered and dull. A very big eye sore. The paint on the roof between the sunroof and front windshield started fading significantly around Sept 2014 or Oct 2014. It looks as if someone took sand paper and sanded down 2 (two) huge cloud like shapes that take up the entire space between the sun roof and top of my front windshield. Shortly after the new year my hood started to look DULL and FADED as well as feel EXTREMELY rough when you rub your hand over the hood in it's entirety.

IT'S VERY DEPRESSING and AGGRAVATING knowing that it looks as though it belongs in a JUNK YARD somewhere and it's only 7 years old!!
