CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima has widespread transmission problems. It starts with the vehicle jerking when shifting, & progresses to full-blown transmission failure.
Maxima owners report spending $3,000 to replace the transmission, typically around when the odometer hits 100,000 miles.
There's a class action lawsuit filed in late 2011, & it is still in the "discovery" stage. Apparently, these things take time ... far too much time.

I purchased a 2006 Nissan Maxima SE from a dealer and it was a used car, ran great, looked great, etc and I was the second owner. Well I purchased it in the fall of 2015 and last year the day after Thanksgiving in 2017, the transmission stopped working car would not go into to gear and shift, starting jerking real bad, etc. and would not even move even in neutral.
I took the car to a mechanic and there was never any recalls on these transmissions and their slipping and shifting issues, and there should've been because Nissan should be responsible for the repairs. The repairs include and are not limited to: New shift kit, including all new shift solenoids, new valve body, etc.
The mechanic agreed with me because he saw the same things happening to other customers of his with the same car, and the price was out of this world, around 4 grand and then some to fix, and I didn't even buy the car for that amount.
Now the car sits in my garage, just sitting there and I would love to get it fixed, but like everyone else, have a family, and other bills to attend to.
Nissan will never admit to this issue with these cars and we as the consumer are stuck with them, even if we are the second owner, and this is all wrong and something should be done about it.
